The 2019 International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) Position Development Conference Task Force for monitoring with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) identified detection of atypical femur fractures (AFFs) as an important topic and established this working group to answer key questions in this area. The authors conducted a systematic review of the literature and deliberated on proposed ISCD positions, which were then reviewed by an external expert panel and vetted at the 2019 ISCD Position Development Conference in Kuala Lumpur on March 23, 2019. This paper summarizes the final ISCD positions and the rationale for supporting these positions.

Objectives: To describe the clinical utility of GFR estimation in dogs.
Animals: Medical records of 132 dogs that had serum iohexol clearance measured between 2012 and 2017.

Physical inactivity is a global health risk that can be addressed through application of exercise training suitable for an individual's health and age. People's willingness to participate in physical activity is often limited by an initially poor physical capability and early onset of fatigue. One factor associated with muscle fatigue during intense contractions is an inexcitability of skeletal muscle cells, reflecting impaired transmembrane Na/K exchange and membrane depolarization, which are regulated via the transmembranous protein Na-K-ATPase (NKA).

We describe a case of Harlequin syndrome with co-existing central first-order Horner syndrome in the setting of a large thalamic hemorrhage with intraventricular extension.

Potential uses of these constructs range from vascular grafts to conduits for enabling perfusion of engineered tissues and organs. The fabrication of standalone tubes or complex perfusable constructs from biofunctional materials, including hydrogels, via rapid and readily accessible routes is desirable.

This approach has a limited biophysical basis, thereby reducing the biological insight gained from such analysis. In particular, drug pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) properties are overlooked in developing treatment response assays, and the accompanying summary statistics conflate these processes.

Ciclopirox olamine (CPX-O) is a marketed topical antifungal agent with demonstrated in vitro and in vivo preclinical anticancer activity in several solid tumor and hematologic malignancies. The oral route of administration for CPX-O is not feasible due to low bioavailability and dose-limiting gastrointestinal toxicities.

During RQC, ANKZF1 (yeast Vms1p) releases ubiquitinated nascent proteins from 60S ribosomal subunits for proteasomal degradation. Here, we use a cell-free system to show that ANKZF1 and Vms1p sever polypeptidyl-tRNAs on RQC complexes by precisely cleaving off the terminal 3'CCA nucleotides universal to all tRNAs.

However, its role in B-cell malignancies has not been elucidated. To describe the role of Par-4 in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) pathogenesis, we developed a B-cell-specific human Par-4-overexpressing mouse model of CLL using the TCL1 leukemia model.

Longitudinal assessments identified spaceflight-specific changes, including decreased body mass, telomere elongation, genome instability, carotid artery distension and increased intima-media thickness, altered ocular structure, transcriptional and metabolic changes, DNA methylation changes in immune and oxidative stress-related pathways, gastrointestinal microbiota alterations, and some cognitive decline postflight. Although average telomere length, global gene expression, and microbiome changes returned to near preflight levels within 6 months after return to Earth, increased numbers of short telomeres were observed and expression of some genes was still disrupted.

Imaging methods have evolved over the past several decades to provide quantitative measures of tumor and healthy tissue characteristics related to, for example, cell number, blood volume fraction, blood flow, hypoxia, and metabolism. Mechanistic models of tumor growth also have matured to a point where the incorporation of patient-specific measures could provide clinically relevant predictions of tumor growth and response.
