Introduction: Patient safety is increasingly becoming a major priority for healthcare institutions, and various models of these rounds exist. The Ottawa M&M Model (OM3) is a structured and standardized approach to patient safety and quality improvement rounds that has been implemented at other institutions across Canada with good success.

Methods: This quality improvement project invited divisions within the Children's Hospital in London, Ontario to participate in the implementation of the OM3 for M&M rounds.

Objectives: In children, peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVs) are maintained by either a continuous infusion of fluid "to keep vein open" (TKO) or a saline lock (SL). There is a widespread perception that TKO prolongs PIV patency, but there is a lack of evidence for this. Introduction: Trauma centres are required to continuously measure, evaluate and improve care. Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) patients are highly susceptible to adverse events (AE; unintended, potentially harmful events resulting from health care) due to their unstable condition requiring high risk interventions, multiple medications and invasive monitoring. It has long been established that mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients can trigger pathological changes in cell metabolism by altering metabolic enzymes such as the mitochondrial 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 10 (17β-HSD10), also known as amyloid-binding alcohol dehydrogenase (ABAD). We and others have shown that frentizole and riluzole derivatives can inhibit 17β-HSD10 and that this inhibition is beneficial and holds therapeutic merit for the treatment of AD. Here we evaluate several novel series based on benzothiazolylurea scaffold evaluating key structural and activity relationships required for the inhibition of 17β-HSD10.

Unlabelled: IRAK-4 deficiency causes IL-1R and TLR signaling failure, resulting in minimal clinical features despite invasive bacterial infection. We report the course of a 7-year-old IRAK-4-deficient girl presenting in the first year with multiple occult Staphylococcus aureus lymphadenitis. She was managed with antibiotic prophylaxis (sulfa/trimethoprim/PenV, then - due to neutropenia - Cefprozil), pneumococcal vaccination (PCV-7, Pneumovax23, PCV-13) and vigilance.

Expression of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein was investigated throughout the developmental progression of endochondral bone formation in mouse and intramembranous bone formation in an in vivo model in rabbit, using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Endochondral bone formation was investigated in a developing embryo, newborn, and adult mouse. In fetal long bones through to newborn (day 7), PTHrP mRNA and protein were consistently expressed in chondrocytes within the proliferative, transitional, and hypertrophic zones.

The clinical and pathological features, including ultrastructural and immunocytochemical findings, of 2 cases of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the uterus are reported. One patient had pulmonary metastases at the time of hysterectomy: she developed pelvic recurrence and died 3 mth after operation. The other patient was well and apparently free of disease 6 mth after hysterectomy.
