Aim: To describe the timing and causes of post-neonatally acquired cerebral palsy (PNN-CP) and map the implementation of relevant preventive strategies against cause-specific temporal trends in prevalence.
Methods: Data for a 1975-2014 birth cohort of children with PNN-CP (brain injury between 28 days and 2 years of age) were drawn from the Victorian and Western Australian CP Registers. Descriptive statistics were used to report causal events and timing.
Models and simulations are used in veterinary education to allow students to practice surgical skills in order to obtain clinical competence. Further development of models is also driven by the requirement of veterinary institutions to reduce the use of animal patients in teaching (live or cadaver). Esophagostomy tube placement is a common therapeutic procedure performed in companion animal critical care cases, and a model was developed to help teach this skill.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmong the various classes of fast-adapting (FA) tactile afferents found in hairy and glabrous skin, FA2 afferents, associated with Pacinian corpuscles (PC), preferentially signal high-frequency sinusoidal events corresponding with vibration percepts, in contrast to other classes associated with lower frequency flutter percepts. The FA2-PC complex is also uniquely sensitive to distant sources of vibration mechanically transmitted through anatomical structures. In the present study, we used a pulsatile waveform to assess the contribution of FA2 afferents to the perception of flutter-range frequency stimuli (~ 20 Hz) in combination with two methods to abolish local FA inputs and force a dependence on FA2 via transmission from adjacent structures.

Proficiency of this skill is difficult to achieve, due to limited exposure to suitable live patients, and animal welfare considerations limiting repeated performance on the same bitch. Models have been beneficial in allowing undergraduates to perform a range of ultrasound techniques without the use of live animals.

Study Design: Population-based register study; analysis of Australian Cerebral Palsy Register (ACPR) data.
Setting, Participants: Children with cerebral palsy born in Australia, 1995-2016, and included in the ACPR at the time of the most recent state/territory data provision (31 July 2022).
Objective: To determine if cancer patients experience variability in incidence or management of emergency general surgery (EGS) conditions compared to non-cancer patients.
Background: The true frequency, and natural history of EGS conditions among cancer patients has not been characterized.
Methods: We utilized SEER-Medicare data from January 2006-December 2015 to compare patients with breast, prostate, and lung cancer to a non-cancer cohort.
Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic Imaging (MRSI) is a powerful technique that can map the metabolic profile in the brain non-invasively. Extracranial lipid contamination and insufficient B homogeneity however hampers robustness, and as a result has hindered widespread use of MRSI in clinical and research settings. Over the last six years we have developed highly effective extracranial lipid suppression methods with a second order gradient insert (ECLIPSE) utilizing inner volume selection (IVS) and outer volume suppression (OVS) methods.

Material And Methods: Eligible participants attended or worked at one of the three Paediatric Rehabilitation Departments including: children with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy; parents/carers; and clinicians. One-on-one interviews were conducted with parents/carers and focus groups with clinicians.
Background: Limited knowledge on nutritional epidemiology in Ghanaian children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) necessitates a comprehensive investigation for an improved understanding of malnutrition in this population.
Objectives: We aimed to describe the epidemiology of malnutrition among children with CP in Ghana.
Methods: The study used data collected as part of the Ghana CP Register (GCPR).
Aim: To determine the frequency, type, clinical, and sociodemographic associations of unmet social needs in children with cerebral palsy (CP).
Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study of parents and carers of children with CP attending a specialist hospital clinic between July and September 2022. Unmet social needs were self-identified using a survey, guided by the WE CARE survey instrument and adapted to the local context.

Methods: The Impact for DCD survey was completed by primary caregivers of 4-18-year-old children with DCD (or synonymous diagnosis) (n = 429).
Outcomes And Results: The greatest participation difficulties experienced at home included dressing, eating with utensils, self-care tasks and drawing/writing reported by over 70% of families.

Aim: To review the evidence of the effects of neonatal magnesium sulphate for neuroprotection in perinatal asphyxia and hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE).
Method: This was a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (with meta-analysis) and non-RCTs assessing magnesium sulphate for treating perinatal asphyxia and HIE at 35 weeks or more gestation (primary outcomes: neonatal death and death or long-term major neurodevelopmental disability).
Results: Twenty-five RCTs (2099 infants) and four non-RCTs (871 infants) were included, 23 in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Purpose: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCA) is characterized by significant phenotypic and clinical heterogeneities and poor response to systemic therapy, potentially related to underlying heterogeneity in oncogenic alterations. We aimed to characterize the genomic heterogeneity between primary tumors and advanced disease in patients with ICCA.
Methods: Biopsy-proven CCA specimens (primary tumor and paired advanced disease [metastatic disease, progressive disease on systemic therapy, or postoperative recurrence]) from two institutions were subjected to targeted next-generation sequencing.
This protocol presents a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of the Saudi Cerebral Palsy Register (SCPR), a crucial project for investigating and addressing the prevalence, etiology, and management of cerebral palsy (CP) in Saudi Arabia. The SCPR will not only provide a robust database for ongoing research and analysis but will also serve as a platform for investigating the causes of CP, implementing preventative strategies, and improving the quality of care and outcomes for people with CP and their families in Saudi Arabia. Detailed case definitions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and data collection protocols are discussed to ensure the integrity and comparability of the data.

The aims of this randomised control trial were to investigate whether a modified telehealth MBSR program could improve mindfulness and reduce depression, anxiety, and emotion regulation difficulties among adults with CP with elevated anxiety and/or emotional regulation difficulties.
