Background: Neuroblastomas are rare tumors activated by the gene commonly found in pediatric patients. Due to the novelty of these tumors, there is no standard diagnostic profile. However, they have been found to express , and synaptophysin, and they can be identified with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Spondyloarthropathies That Mimic Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Narrative Review.

Ankylosing spondylitis is the most common type of seronegative inflammatory spondyloarthropathy often presenting with low back or neck pain, stiffness, kyphosis and fractures that are initially missed on presentation; however, there are other spondyloarthropathies that may present similarly making it a challenge to establish the correct diagnosis. Here, we will highlight the similarities and unique features of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, presentation, radiographic findings, and management of seronegative inflammatory and metabolic spondyloarthropathies as they affect the axial skeleton and mimic ankylosing spondylitis. Seronegative inflammatory spondyloarthropathies such as psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, noninflammatory spondyloarthropathies such as diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, and ochronotic arthritis resulting from alkaptonuria can affect the axial skeleton and present with symptoms similar those of ankylosing spondylitis.

The interaction of socioeconomic stress and race on telomere length in children: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Rationale: Proposed mechanisms relating early life exposures to poor health suggest that biologic indicators of risk are observable in childhood. Telomere length (TL) is a biomarker of aging, psychosocial stress, and a range of environmental exposures. In adults, exposure to early life adversity, including low socioeconomic status (SES), is predictive of shorter TL.

Isolated distal semitendinosus tendon tear in a collegiate athlete.

Complete distal semitendinosus tendon tears are rare hamstring injuries. They often present with a "pop" followed by delayed pain and swelling. We describe the case of a collegiate athlete with an isolated distal semitendinosus tendon tear diagnosed by MRI and ultrasound after being treated for a stress fracture of the anterior tibial shaft with an intramedullary nail.

Change from transrectal to transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy under local anaesthetic eliminates sepsis as a complication.

Transrectal ultrasound-guided (TRUS) biopsy of the prostate is associated with increased risk of post-procedural sepsis with associated morbidity, mortality, re-admission to hospital, and increased healthcare costs. In the study institution, active surveillance of post-procedural infection complications is performed by clinical nurse specialists for prostate cancer under the guidance of the infection prevention and control team. To protect hospital services for acute medical admissions related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, TRUS biopsy services were reduced nationally, with exceptions only for those patients at high risk of prostate cancer.

Fatal fetal abnormality Irish live-born survival-an observational study.

The aim of the study was to provide accurate information regarding live-born infant survival after diagnosis of fatal fetal anomaly (FFA) to aid decision-making in respect of pregnancy management, and to ascertain the natural history of live-born infants with FFAs via a retrospective analysis of death records (2006-2018), from the National Paediatric Mortality Registry (source Central Statistics Office 2019). Diagnoses and survival times were ascertained from narrative records with further ascertainment and reconciliation of trisomies 13 and 18 cases by review of cytogenetic test records, the National Death Events Register and National Perinatal Epidemiology Centre data. During the study period, termination of pregnancy was not permitted under the Irish Constitution.

A retrospective review of the contribution of rare diseases to paediatric mortality in Ireland.

Aims: To ascertain the number of paediatric deaths (0-14 years) with an underlying rare disease in the Republic of Ireland between the years 2006-2016, and to analyse bed usage by a paediatric cohort of rare disease inpatients prior to in-hospital death.

Background: Rare diseases are often chronically debilitating and sometimes life-threatening diseases, with the majority (69.9%) of rare diseases being of paediatric onset.

A wavelet-based algorithm for automated analysis of external tocography: How does it compare to human interpretation?

Background: Studies which use external tocography to explore the relationship between increased intrapartum uterine activity and foetal outcomes are feasible because the technology is safe and ubiquitous. However, periods of poor signal quality are common. We developed an algorithm which aims to calculate tocograph summary variables based on well-recorded contractions only, ignoring artefact and excluding sections deemed uninterpretable.

Maternal intentions towards infant sleeping practices in Ireland.

Aim: Mortality from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) has reduced by 50%-85% globally. Despite improvements from 1990 to 2009, the Irish SIDS rate has plateaued. Reasons for this are unclear, but may be related to a reduced parental SIDS awareness.

Comparison of vibrotactile and joint-torque feedback in a myoelectric upper-limb prosthesis.

Background: Despite the technological advancements in myoelectric prostheses, body-powered prostheses remain a popular choice for amputees, in part due to the natural sensory advantage they provide. Research on haptic feedback in myoelectric prostheses has delivered mixed results. Furthermore, there is limited research comparing various haptic feedback modalities in myoelectric prostheses.

Trends in road transport collision deaths in the Irish paediatric population: a retrospective review of mortality data, 1991-2015.

Objective: To establish the incidence of road transport collision (RTC) fatalities in the Irish paediatric population, examining trends in fatality rates over a period of 25 years, during which several national road safety interventions were implemented.

Study Design: Retrospective review of death registration details of children 0-19 years in Ireland between January 1991 and December 2015. Trends in mortality rates were investigated using average annual per cent change and Poisson regression analysis.

Diagnosis of glenoid labral tears using 3-tesla MRI vs. 3-tesla MRA: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Various protocols exist for magnetic resonance arthrogram (MRA) of the shoulder, including 3D isotropic scanning and positioning in neutral (2D neutral MRA), or abduction-external-rotation (ABER).

Hypothesis: MRA does not improve diagnostic accuracy for labral tears when compared to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed using 3-Tesla (3T) magnets.

Metformin-induced encephalopathy: the role of thiamine.

A case of metformin encephalopathy is presented in a patient on haemodialysis for end-stage diabetic renal failure. The patient presented with frequent falls and clinical signs of Parkinsonism, on a background of recent anorexia and significant weight loss. Magnetic resonance imaging showed bilateral, symmetrical abnormalities centred on the lentiform nuclei.

Context: Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is a leading cause of postneonatal infant mortality. Our previous meta-analyses showed that any breastfeeding is protective against SIDS with exclusive breastfeeding conferring a stronger effect.The duration of breastfeeding required to confer a protective effect is unknown.

Timing of administration of antenatal magnesium sulfate and umbilical cord blood magnesium levels in preterm babies.

Background: The optimum timing of administration of magnesium sulfate (MgSO) in relation to delivery is not known. The general consensus is to achieve administration to the mother at least 4 hours prior to preterm delivery.

Objective: To investigate potential predictors of umbilical cord blood magnesium (Mg) concentrations, in particular, timing of antenatal MgSO administration in relation to delivery.

Unlabelled: To access outcome following hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), survivors without cerebral palsy were invited for formal developmental assessment. Children aged ≥ 42 months were assessed using the NEPSY-2, Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2 (Movement ABC-2), Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, and the Child Behavior Checklist. Children aged < 42 months were assessed using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition (BSITD-3).

Background: Allografts from living donors survive longer than those from deceased donors but the role of HLA mismatching in living kidney donation is still in question. We examined the effect of HLA compatibility on kidney allograft survival from living donors by studying all first adult kidney transplants performed in the United States over 25 years.

Methods: Using the United Network for Organ Sharing data, we identified first kidney transplants between October 1, 1987, and December 31, 2013.

Objectives: To review the literature to assess whether the fact that osteoporosis is chiefly considered a disease of the older population was reflected in research in the area of the management of osteoporosis and to determine the extent of ageism in studies on the management of osteoporosis.

Design: Review.

Setting: All randomized control trials on the management of osteoporosis entered in the Cochrane Library Database that reported mean age were included.

Diagnostic Efficacy of 3-T MRI for Knee Injuries Using Arthroscopy as a Reference Standard: A Meta-Analysis.

Objective: The objectives of our study were to assess the evidence for the diagnostic efficacy of 3-T MRI for meniscal and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in the knee using arthroscopy as the reference standard and to compare these results with the results of a previous meta-analysis assessing 1.5-T MRI.
