Accurate radiographic screening evaluation is essential in the genetic control of canine HD, however, the qualitative assessment of hip congruency introduces some subjectivity, leading to excessive variability in scoring. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of collimation on image quality and radiation dose to the eye lenses of the personnel involved in computed radiography of the canine pelvis. A retrospective study of canine pelvic radiographs ( = 54) was undertaken to evaluate the relationship between image quality and the degree of field the collimation used. This was followed by a prospective cadaver study ( = 18) that assessed the effects on image quality and on scattered radiation dose of different collimation field areas and exposure parameters.

If the articular facets of the vertebra grow in an asymmetric manner, the developed bone geometry causes an asymmetry of loading. When the loading environment is altered by way of increased activity, the likelihood of acquiring a stress fracture may be increased. The combination of geometric asymmetry and increased activity is hypothesised to be the precursor to the stress fracture under investigation in this study, spondylolysis.

There is no evidence-based diagnostic approach for diagnosis of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in dogs. Many dogs with diseases that predispose to thrombosis are hypercoagulable when assessed with thromboelastography (TEG), but no direct link has been established. The aims of this study were: (1) to investigate if diseased dogs with PTE, diagnosed by computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA), had evidence of hypercoagulability by TEG; (2) to characterise haemostatic and inflammatory changes in dogs with PTE; (3) to construct models for prediction of PTE based on combinations of haemostatic and inflammatory variables; and (4) to evaluate the performance of D-dimer measurement for prediction of PTE.
