Background: A clinical quality registry (CQR) is a structured database that systematically collects data to monitor clinical quality and improve healthcare outcomes. The aims of CQRs are to improve treatment plans, assist in decision-making, increase healthcare value, enhance care quality, and reduce healthcare costs by providing feedback to healthcare providers. Feedback to clinicians is used as a quality improvement tool.

Air Purifiers and Acute Respiratory Infections in Residential Aged Care: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: The effectiveness of in-room air purification for the reduction of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in residential aged-care facilities (RACFs) is unknown.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of in-room air purifiers with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA)-14 filters in reducing the incidence of ARIs among residents of RACFs.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This randomized clinical trial used a multicenter, double-blind, 2-period, 2-treatment crossover design for 6 months from April 7 to October 26, 2023, in 3 RACFs with a bed capacity of 50 to 100 in New South Wales, Australia.

Clinical practices for defining, detecting, and diagnosing postoperative atrial fibrillation after coronary revascularization surgery - A scoping review.

Objectives: This scoping review was undertaken to understand the degree of variation in clinical practices associated with postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF), following coronary revascularization surgery by collating and synthesising key concepts from current published literature.

Review Methods And Data Sources: This scoping review was conducted following the framework outlined by Askey and O'Malley. Reporting of this scoping review follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews checklist.

Creating an Age-Friendly Environment in Farming - The Farmer's Yards Approach.

With demographic trends highlighting an inversion of the farming community age pyramid, with those aged 65 years and over constituting the fastest growing subgroup of the farming population globally, this article highlights a social initiative for older farmers called Farmer's Yards, embodying values, and aspirations pertinent to farmers in their later years, that is helping to create an age-friendly environment in farming in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. By providing older farmers with a platform for sustained social engagement and inclusion within the farming community, this social initiative aligns with principles promoting active and healthy aging, thereby contributing positively to their mental health and wellbeing in later life. In doing so, Farmer's Yards is helping to address recent calls by the European Commission for an increased emphasis on the delivery of creative mechanisms that enhance the quality of life of older farmers through social policy.

Methods: A systematic search using key search terms of 'frailty', 'geriatric', 'hospital' and 'nurse'.

INFORM-AF II-Phase 1 pilot randomised controlled trial evaluating the effect of an atrial fibrillation digital education programme: study protocol.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of a novel, co-designed, digital AF educational program, 'INFORM-AF', to reduce re-hospitalisation of people with AF. The secondary aims are to examine the effect of the intervention on: (a) reducing cardiovascular-related hospitalisation, (b) increasing medication adherence, AF-related knowledge, and Atrial fibrillation (AF)-related quality of life and (c) determining the cost-effectiveness of the intervention.

Background: Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) also known as non-ventilator associated pneumonia, is one of the most common infections acquired in hospitalised patients. Improving oral hygiene appears to reduce the incidence of HAP. This study aimed to describe current practices, barriers and facilitators, knowledge and educational preferences of registered nurses performing oral health care in the Australian hospital setting, with a focus on the prevention of HAP.

Introduction: Rapid translation of research findings into clinical practice through innovation is critical to improve health systems and patient outcomes. Access to efficient systems of learning underpinned with real-time data are the future of healthcare. This type of health system will decrease unwarranted clinical variation, accelerate rapid evidence translation, and improve overall healthcare quality.

Developing semi-empirical water model for efficiently simulating temperature-dependent chemisorption of CO in amine solvents.

Classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations without bond forming/breaking cannot be used to model chemical reactions (CRs) among small molecules. Although the first-principle MD simulation can adequately describe CRs with explicit water molecules, such simulation is normally too costly for most researchers to afford. Generally, water molecules in a solvent can exert hydrophobic forces on reacting molecules, which yields a so-called caging effect that cannot be ignored when constructing a free energy landscape for reacting molecules.

This paper aims to empower cardiovascular (CV) researchers by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) principles throughout the research cycle. It defines DE&I and introduces practical strategies for implementation in recruitment, retention, and team dynamics within CV research. Evidence-based approaches supporting underrepresented populations' participation are outlined for each research phase.

Quality standards for the management of alcohol-related liver disease: consensus recommendations from the British Association for the Study of the Liver and British Society of Gastroenterology ARLD special interest group.

Objective: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) is the most common cause of liver-related ill health and liver-related deaths in the UK, and deaths from ALD have doubled in the last decade. The management of ALD requires treatment of both liver disease and alcohol use; this necessitates effective and constructive multidisciplinary working. To support this, we have developed quality standard recommendations for the management of ALD, based on evidence and consensus expert opinion, with the aim of improving patient care.

Beliefs About Pain in Pediatric Inflammatory and Noninflammatory Chronic Musculoskeletal Conditions: A Scoping Review.

Objective: The Common Sense Self-Regulatory Model posits that beliefs about pain influence coping behaviors and subsequent physical and mental health outcomes in children/young people with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. It was unclear how and what beliefs had been investigated in this population, and whether there were similarities and differences in beliefs held about pain by those experiencing inflammatory versus noninflammatory musculoskeletal conditions. This scoping review addressed this gap.

"My gut feeling is…": An Ethnographic Study Exploring Interprofessional Communication About Children and Adolescents With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Paediatric Rheumatology.

Interprofessional communication about inflammatory and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions is an important component of assessment and management in paediatric rheumatology. Chronic pain is a feature of some of these conditions which likely influences the extent and type of communication about pain. Research investigating interprofessional communication about paediatric pain is limited but has found that communication is inclusive of the biopsychosocial context of children/adolescents as well as their families.

Application of machine-learning algorithms to predict the transport properties of Mie fluids.

The ability to predict transport properties of fluids, such as the self-diffusion coefficient and viscosity, has been an ongoing effort in the field of molecular modeling. While there are theoretical approaches to predict the transport properties of simple systems, they are typically applied in the dilute gas regime and are not directly applicable to more complex systems. Other attempts to predict transport properties are performed by fitting available experimental or molecular simulation data to empirical or semi-empirical correlations.

Risk of organism acquisition from prior room occupants: An updated systematic review.

Background: Evidence from a previous systematic review indicates that patients admitted to a room where the previous occupant had a multidrug-resistant bacterial infection resulted in an increased risk of subsequent colonisation and infection with the same organism for the next room occupant. In this paper, we have sought to expand and update this review.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken.

Evidence indicates that the aerosols contaminated with virus particles in closed indoor spaces may play a significant role in the transmission of respiratory infections. In this protocol paper, we outline details of a planned RCT which aims to evaluate the effectiveness of portable in room air purifiers in reducing the risk of ARIs among residents in Australian RACFs.

Frailty and oral anticoagulant prescription in adults with atrial fibrillation: A systematic review.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of frailty in the context of atrial fibrillation (AF); to identify the most commonly used frailty instruments in AF; and to describe the effect of frailty on non-vitamin K oral anticoagulant (NOAC) prescription for stroke prevention in adults with AF.

Methods: A systematic search of databases, including Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and CINAHL, was conducted using search terms including "atrial fibrillation," "frailty," and "anticoagulation." A narrative synthesis was undertaken.

Addressing education and employment outcomes in the provision of healthcare for young people with physical long-term conditions: A systematic review and mixed methods synthesis.

Objective: To identify and synthesise the experiences and benefits of addressing vocational issues in the provision of healthcare for young people (YP) with long-term conditions (LTCs).

Methods: We searched 10 bibliographic databases. Restrictions were applied on publication date (1996-2020) and language (English).

Growing up with chronic pain: a systematic review of the evidence in transitional care for young people with chronic pain.

Objective: Paediatric chronic pain presents a significant individual and societal burden, with an estimated prevalence of 11-38%. A large proportion of adolescents with chronic pain will have unresolved pain that continues into adulthood and thus requires transitional care. The aim of this review was to investigate the current evidence for the core components of effective transitional care interventions designed for young people with chronic pain.

Blinded Predictions and Post Hoc Analysis of the Second Solubility Challenge Data: Exploring Training Data and Feature Set Selection for Machine and Deep Learning Models.

Accurate methods to predict solubility from molecular structure are highly sought after in the chemical sciences. To assess the state of the art, the American Chemical Society organized a "Second Solubility Challenge" in 2019, in which competitors were invited to submit blinded predictions of the solubilities of 132 drug-like molecules. In the first part of this article, we describe the development of two models that were submitted to the Blind Challenge in 2019 but which have not previously been reported.

Cardiovascular Nursing and Climate Change: A Call to Action From the CSANZ Cardiovascular Nursing Council.

This Call to Action aims to provide key considerations for cardiovascular nursing, related to climate and environmental impacts. Strategies to optimise nursing preparation, immediate response and adaptation to climate emergencies are crucial to ensure those at greatest risk, including First Nations peoples, are protected from potentially avoidable harm. Professionals who manage climate consequences must also understand the impact of their care on the root cause of the problem.
