Background: Racial discrimination (RD) disrupts regulatory systems in minoritized individuals, particularly those that govern attention, including attention to visceral signals (interoception). RD frequency is linked to physiological "shut down" responses, characterized clinically by dissociation. We examined associations between RD frequency and functional connectivity of attention and interoceptive networks in sample of trauma-exposed Black women, investigating how connectivity alterations associate with dissociation severity.

Alga-dominated geothermal spring communities in Yellowstone National Park (YNP), USA, have been the focus of many studies, however, relatively little is known about the composition and community interactions which underpin these ecosystems. Our goal was to determine, in three neighboring yet distinct environments in Lemonade Creek, YNP, how cells cope with abiotic stressors over the diurnal cycle. All three environments are colonized by two photosynthetic lineages, and , both of which are extremophilic Cyanidiophyceae red algae.

Meditation is a family of ancient and contemporary contemplative mind-body practices that can modulate psychological processes, awareness, and mental states. Over the last 40 years, clinical science has manualized meditation practices and designed various meditation interventions that have shown therapeutic efficacy for disorders including depression, pain, addiction, and anxiety. Over the past decade, neuroimaging has been used to examine the neuroscientific basis of meditation practices, effects, states, and outcomes for clinical and nonclinical populations.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the relationship between dissociation, a common trauma response, and the microstructure of white matter (WM) in the brain, particularly looking at how brain connectivity may be affected in trauma-exposed women.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 135 women to examine how different facets of dissociation related to fractional anisotropy (FA), a measure of WM integrity, finding significant negative correlations between FA and overall dissociation across several important brain tracts.
  • - The results suggest that greater severity of dissociation is associated with reduced WM integrity in areas linked to sensory processing, emotional regulation, and memory, highlighting potential targets for therapy and neuromodulation interventions.

The operon encodes a three-protein arsenic resistance system. ArsR regulates the transcription of the operon, while ArsB and ArsC are involved in exporting trivalent arsenic and reducing pentavalent arsenic, respectively. Previous research into 5A has demonstrated that ArsR has regulatory control over a wide range of metal-related proteins and metabolic pathways.

  • This study investigates the effectiveness of exposure-based therapy (EXP) versus behavioral activation (BA) for adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), as previous research has primarily focused on EXP without direct comparison to BA.! -
  • Conducted as a randomized clinical trial with 102 participants in Tulsa, OK, both EXP and BA showed significant improvements in GAD symptoms according to the GAD-7 self-report scale after treatment and at a 6-month follow-up.! -
  • Results suggest that while both treatments are effective, BA leads to quicker reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms and overall may provide greater improvement compared to EXP, indicating the need for further research into tailored treatment options for GAD.!

Reports of aerobic biogenic methane () have generated new views about sources in nature. We examine this phenomenon in the free-flowing Yellowstone river wherein concentrations were tracked as a function of environmental conditions, phototrophic microorganisms (using chlorophyll , Chl , as proxy), as well as targeted methylated amines known to be associated with this process. was positively correlated with temperature and Chl , although diurnal measurements showed concentrations were greatest during the night and lowest during maximal solar irradiation.

  • Australia's National Cervical Screening Program underwent a significant transition to a primary HPV testing method, resulting in a longer screening interval and earlier initiation age, impacting pathology labs' roles and operations.
  • Semi-structured interviews with 49 stakeholders revealed four main themes: positive acceptance and evidence for the transition, challenges with lab infrastructure and staffing, missed opportunities for improving equity, and suggestions for better planning and communication.
  • The study indicates that although the transition was generally viewed favorably, better preparation and engagement with the pathology sector are essential for successful implementation.

Background: Self-collection for cervical screening has been available in the Australian National Cervical Screening Program since 2017 and is now available to all people as an option for cervical screening through a practitioner-supported model. Documenting early adopting practitioner experiences with self-collection as a mechanism to engage people in cervical screening is crucial to informing its continuing roll-out and implementation in other health systems.

Aim: This study aimed to describe the experiences of practitioners in Victoria, Australia, who used human papillomavirus (HPV)-based self-collection cervical screening during the first 17 months of its availability.

Background: In December 2017, the Australian National Cervical Screening Program transitioned from 2-yearly cytology-based to 5-yearly human papillomavirus (HPV)-based cervical screening, including a vaginal self-collection option. Until July 2022, this option was restricted to under- or never-screened people aged 30 years and older who refused a speculum exam. We investigated the perspectives and experiences of stakeholders involved in, or affected by, the initial implementation of the restricted self-collection pathway.

Arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) were examined in the Yellowstone Lake food chain, focusing on two lake locations separated by approximately 20 km and differing in lake floor hydrothermal vent activity. Sampling spanned from femtoplankton to the main fish species, Yellowstone cutthroat trout and the apex predator lake trout. Mercury bioaccumulated in muscle and liver of both trout species, biomagnifying with age, whereas As decreased in older fish, which indicates differential exposure routes for these metal(loid)s.

  • - This study investigated how anxiety and depression affect brain activation during an approach-avoidance decision-making task, comparing responses of 118 affected adults to 58 healthy individuals.
  • - Results showed that those with anxiety or depression exhibited increased striatal engagement when responding to emotional stimuli but decreased striatal activity during reward feedback, along with reduced amygdala activity during decision-making.
  • - The findings suggest that altered neural responses in the striatum and amygdala could help understand anxiety and depression, pointing to potential targets for future treatments.
