Rates of depression among youth and emergency department (ED) visits for un- or under-treated symptoms are on the rise. Early identification and treatment of depression is imperative at the patient, program, system, and population levels. This paper examines the individual and cumulative impact of Project ECHO and the inclusion of IBH services in pediatric primary care practices on mental health-related ED rates among youth diagnosed with depression for those practices.

Alcohol-based antisepsis without the use of chlorhexidine for arthroscopy in horses.

Alcohol-based antisepsis has shown experimentally to be as effective as 4 % chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) at reducing bacterial counts (colony forming units; CFU) on equine skin. Our objectives were to determine the immediate and post-surgical reduction in CFU/mL on equine skin prepared with CHG-based or 70 % isopropyl alcohol (IPA)-based (without CHG) protocols in a clinical setting with arthroscopic surgery. Our hypotheses were that the logCFU/mL reduction would not significantly differ between protocols immediately after preparation or at the end of surgery.

Arterial effects of anthracycline: structural and inflammatory assessments in non-human primates and lymphoma patients.

Anthracyclines, such as doxorubicin, are important anti-cancer therapies but are associated with arterial injury. Histopathological insights have been limited to small animal models, and the role of inflammation in the arterial toxic effects of anthracycline is unclear in humans. Our aims were (1) to evaluate aortic media fibrosis and injury in non-human primates treated with anthracyclines; (2) to assess the effect of anthracycline on aortic inflammation in patients treated for lymphoma.

Integrated Behavioral Health: A Guide to Practical Implementation.

Integrating behavioral health providers in primary care settings is an effective model for increasing access to mental and behavioral health services for youth. Resources and subject matter experts can be leveraged by pediatric practices to identify the components of a successful model and to support implementation in community practices. Integrated behavioral health approaches vary in scope and components of the models can be selected and implemented to meet the needs of each practice and the patient population served.

The effectiveness of simulation-based learning (SBL) on students' knowledge and skills in nursing programs: a systematic review.

Background: Simulation-Based Learning (SBL) serves as a valuable pedagogical approach in nursing education, encompassing varying levels of fidelity. While previous reviews have highlighted the potential effectiveness of SBL in enhancing nursing students' competencies, a gap persists in the evidence-base addressing the long-term retention of these competencies. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the impact of SBL on nursing students' knowledge and skill acquisition and retention.

Collagen IV deficiency causes hypertrophic remodeling and endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization in small vessel disease with intracerebral hemorrhage.

Background: Genetic variants in COL4A1 and COL4A2 (encoding collagen IV alpha chain 1/2) occur in genetic and sporadic forms of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), a leading cause of stroke, dementia and intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). However, the molecular mechanisms of CSVD with ICH and COL4A1/COL4A2 variants remain obscure.

Methods: Vascular function and molecular investigations in mice with a Col4a1 missense mutation and heterozygous Col4a2 knock-out mice were combined with analysis of human brain endothelial cells harboring COL4A1/COL4A2 mutations, and brain tissue of patients with sporadic CSVD with ICH.

However, indicators are necessary for the early identification of animals that are less likely to perform well, allowing for their early culling and ensuring that resources are allocated to those with the highest potential. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between early-life animal health and performance with longevity, production, and profitability.

Effects of storage conditions on the microbiota of fecal samples collected from dairy cattle.

Microbiota analyses are key to understanding the bacterial communities within dairy cattle, but the impact of different storage conditions on these analyses remains unclear. This study sought to examine the effects of freezing at -80°C immediately after collection, refrigeration at 4°C for three days and seven days and absolute ethanol preservation on the microbiota diversity of pooled fecal samples from dairy cattle. Examining 16S rRNA gene sequences, alpha (Shannon, Pielou evenness, observed features and Faith PD indices) and beta (Bray-Curtis, βw and Weighted UniFrac) diversity were assessed.

Importance: The pregnancy safety and teratogenicity of overactive bladder (OAB) anticholinergic medications in humans are unknown.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine if the use of OAB anticholinergics during pregnancy was associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes or congenital malformation.

Study Design: Using routinely collected health care data from Ontario, Canada, we conducted a retrospective cohort study and identified women aged 18-45 years who gave birth between 2004 and 2022 and were eligible for provincial drug benefits.

Objective: Obesity increases osteoarthritis (OA) risk due to adipose tissue dysfunction with associated metabolic syndrome and excess weight. Lipodystrophy syndromes exhibit systemic metabolic and inflammatory abnormalities similar to obesity without biomechanical overloading. Here, we used lipodystrophy mouse models to investigate the effects of systemic versus intra-articular adipose tissue dysfunction on the knee.

Integrating Machine Learning and Color Chemistry: Developing a High-School Curriculum toward Real-World Problem-Solving.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world, making it imperative to educate the next generation about both the potential benefits and challenges associated with AI. This study presents a cross-disciplinary curriculum that connects AI and chemistry disciplines in the high school classroom. Particularly, we leverage machine learning (ML), an important and simple application of AI to instruct students to build an ML-based virtual pH meter for high-precision pH read-outs.

On second thoughts: Testing the underlying mechanisms of spontaneous future thought.

The human capacity to imagine possible future events unintentionally, with minimal cognitive effort, is termed spontaneous future thought (SFT). This paper addresses an important theoretical question for cognitive science: What are the possible cognitive mechanisms underlying such SFT experiences? We contrasted three hypotheses present in the literature: the online construction hypothesis, the recasting hypothesis, and the memories of future thoughts hypothesis. Study 1 (N = 41) used novel subjective ratings which challenged the recasting mechanism: SFTs were mostly rated as dissimilar to autobiographical memories, suggesting they are not simply past experiences 'recast' as future events.

Pivoting COVID-19 Resources for an Equitable Mpox Vaccine Response in Louisiana.

Introduction: The first case of mpox in Louisiana was identified 2 months ahead of Southern Decadence Festival in New Orleans, the largest LGBTQ+ Pride festival in the South. With mpox case numbers reflecting racial disparities, the objective was to mount an equitable vaccination response.

Methods: The Louisiana Department of Health rapidly pivoted its COVID-19 resources and strategies-specifically, using vaccine strike teams and mobile events, in-state vaccine redistribution through centralized warehousing and shipping support, and community partnerships-to now control mpox transmission.
