Comparing the MicroRNA spectrum between serum and plasma.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that regulate various biological processes, primarily through interaction with messenger RNAs. The levels of specific, circulating miRNAs in blood have been shown to associate with various pathological conditions including cancers. These miRNAs have great potential as biomarkers for various pathophysiological conditions.

Scientific advances in the genetic understanding and diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH), a potentially fatal disorder triggered by certain types of general anesthesia, has received much attention in the scientific literature. From the first case report in 1960 until the present, hundreds of studies have been conducted. The diagnosis of MH has evolved from subjective assumptions by family history and clinical diagnosis to more sophisticated laboratory testing.

Traumatic L5-S1 spondylolisthesis.

We report a case of traumatic spondylolisthesis in a 31-year-old man struck by a steel I-beam. Although most reported traumatic spondylolisthesis cases are from low-energy trauma, this was a high-energy trauma case. The initial examination revealed no signs of cauda equina syndrome, and the patient's spinal injury was primarily capsuloligamentous.
