Haematological malignancies affect 12·5 in 100 000 pregnancies. Over the past two decades, the number of haematological malignancies in pregnancy has substantially increased. Life-threatening haematological malignancies in pregnancy, such as acute leukaemia and aggressive lymphomas, pose a unique therapeutic challenge: clinicians must consider both maternal and fetal wellbeing, aiming to deliver optimal curative therapy for the patient and a successful pregnancy outcome.

Fathers are underrepresented in food parenting research partly due to the lack of succinct, theory-informed, and father-mother equivalent food parenting measurement tools. To address this, we 1) tested the factorial validity of a brief food parenting measure utilizing a subset of items from the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ) to represent coercive control, structure, and autonomy support, 2) assessed the extent to which the brief tool works similarly in fathers and mothers (i.e.

The prevalence of hypertension increases with age and is the leading modifiable risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. At present, the neural mechanisms promoting hypertension across the lifespan are incompletely understood. Using the Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat as a model of normal aging, we hypothesized (1) blood brain barrier (BBB) disruption and neuroinflammation in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus enhances sympathetic tone and contributes to age-dependent hypertension, (2) age-dependent hypertension is associated with cognitive impairment, and (3) lowering blood pressure in aged rats with established hypertension improves cognitive function.

Objective: This research applied emotion regulation to negative emotions felt toward a sex trafficking victim so that judgments were made to offer her services rather than to favor her arrest for prostitution.

Hypotheses: We predicted that participants would favor police not arresting a trafficking survivor for prostitution when she was vulnerable (Hypothesis 1) or she showed no sex work history (Hypothesis 2). We predicted a moderated mediation model (Hypothesis 3), in which emotion regulation training to reduce feelings of contempt, anger, and disgust (CAD) toward the survivor interacted with vulnerability and prior sex work such that the effects of the latter two manipulations were the strongest in the successful emotion regulation conditions (i.

The widespread discrimination against individuals with obesity often stems from a simplistic perception of obesity as a mere consequence of personal choices of overeating and insufficient physical activity. This reductionist perception fails to acknowledge the complexity of the epidemic of obesity, which extends beyond diet and exercise decisions. The concept of appetite self-regulation (ASR) has been explored as a crucial element in identifying obesogenic behavioral approaches to food.

Criminalization of sex work is linked to increased risk of violence and lack of workplace protections for sex workers. Most jurisdictions globally prohibit some or all aspects of sex work with New Zealand constituting a notable exception, where sex work has been decriminalized and regulated via OHS guidelines. We used the as an analytical framework to examine the lived-experiences of psychosocial OHS conditions of indoor sex workers in Metro Vancouver under end-demand criminalization.

Despite Vietnam's overall progress on maternal health indicators, marginalized ethnic minorities in remote areas face lower access to antenatal care and higher maternal mortality rates relative to the Kinh (majority ethnic group). Last year, we conducted fieldwork for 2 qualitative research projects that aimed to address maternal health inequities among pregnant ethnic minority women in rural Northern Vietnam. Although not the focus of our research, the use of ultrasonography services at for-profit private clinics was ubiquitous in participants' healthcare-seeking accounts.

MXenes are a large family of two-dimensional materials that have attracted attention across many fields due to their desirable optoelectronic, biological, mechanical and chemical properties. There currently exist many synthesis procedures that lead to differences in flake size, defects and surface chemistry, which in turn affect their properties. Herein, we describe the steps to synthesize TiCT-the most important and widely used MXene, from a TiAlC MAX phase precursor.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral for dairy cattle and can be provided in the diet in various forms that may differ in bioavailability. The objective of this study was to determine how source of Se affects animal performance, Se status, retention, and apparent and true absorption. Multiparous Holstein cows (n = 24; 597 ± 49 kg of BW) were blocked by DIM (161 ± 18) and randomly assigned to receive 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent computational studies have identified new ternary nitrides, pointing to potential new materials, but synthesizing them is challenging due to high cohesive energies that slow down diffusion.
  • The authors successfully synthesized two new phases, calcium zirconium nitride (CaZrN) and calcium hafnium nitride (CaHfN), through solid state metathesis reactions involving calcium nitride (CaN) and metal chlorides (Zr, Hf).
  • It was found that a slight excess of CaN (about 20 mol %) is necessary to achieve the correct stoichiometry of CaN for producing the desired phases, as revealed by advanced synchrotron X-ray diffraction studies, which also helped explain the synthesis process compared to

The synthesis of complex oxides at low temperatures brings forward aspects of chemistry not typically considered. This study focuses on perovskite LaMnO, which is of interest for its correlated electronic behavior tied to the oxidation state and thus the spin configuration of manganese. Traditional equilibrium synthesis of these materials typically requires synthesis reaction temperatures in excess of 1000 °C, followed by subsequent annealing steps at lower temperatures and different (O) conditions to manipulate the oxygen content postsynthesis (e.

Article Synopsis
  • Synthesis of new inorganic materials is challenging due to limited guidance on optimal solid-state procedures.
  • Researchers introduced primary and secondary competition metrics to assess how likely target materials will form compared to impurities in solid-state reactions.
  • They applied these metrics to analyze thousands of reactions, identifying efficient synthesis methods for barium titanate (BaTiO) that outperform traditional approaches by using unconventional precursors.

Background: Due to interconnected structural determinants including low maternal health knowledge, economic marginalization, and remoteness from low-capacity health centers, ethnic minority women in remote areas of Vietnam face severe maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) inequities. As ethnic minorities represent 15% of the Vietnamese population, these disparities are significant. mMOM-a pilot mobile health (mHealth) intervention using SMS text messaging to improve MNCH outcomes among ethnic minority women in northern Vietnam-was implemented from 2013-2016 with promising results.

Our objectives were to evaluate the effects of complete replacement of supplementary inorganic salts of trace minerals (ITM; cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn) sulfates and sodium (Na) selenite) by organic trace minerals (OTM; Co, Cu, Mn, Zn proteinates, and selenized yeast) in both pre- and postpartum diets on trace minerals (TM) concentrations in body fluids and liver, antioxidant and inflammation biomarkers in blood, and postpartum health of dairy cows. Pregnant cows were blocked by parity and body condition score and randomly assigned to ITM (n = 136) or OTM (n = 137) 45 d before expected calving. Both groups received the same pre- and postpartum diets except for the source of supplementary TM.

Dynamic control of electromagnetic wave jamming is a notable technological challenge for protecting electronic devices working at gigahertz frequencies. Foam materials can adjust the reflection and absorption of microwaves, enabling a tunable electromagnetic interference shielding capability, but their thickness of several millimetres hinders their application in integrated electronics. Here we show a method for modulating the reflection and absorption of incident electromagnetic waves using various submicrometre-thick MXene thin films.

Objectives: Globally, criminalisation has shaped sex workers' structural exclusion from occupational protections, and this exclusion has been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. While community organisations aim to bridge this gap through providing health and safety resources for sex workers, many were forced to scale back services when Canadian provinces declared a state of emergency at the pandemic onset. As little empirical research has examined the impacts of sex work community services interruptions amid COVID-19, our objectives were to (1) examine the correlates of interrupted access to community services and (2) model the independent association between interrupted access to community services and changes in working conditions (ie, self-reported increases in workplace violence or fear of violence), among sex workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: In 2014, Canada implemented end-demand sex work legislation that criminalises clients and third parties (eg, managers, security personnel, etc) involved in sex work. The focus of this analysis is to explore how the criminalisation of clients shapes the occupational health and safety of sex workers.

Design: As part of a longstanding community-based study (An Evaluation of Sex Workers' Health Access), this analysis draws on 47 in-depth qualitative interviews with indoor sex workers and third parties.

Our objectives were to evaluate the effect of the form of supplementary trace minerals-inorganic salts (STM: Co, Cu, Mn, and Zn sulfates and Na selenite) or organic (OTM: Co, Cu, Mn, Zn proteinates, and selenized yeast)-fed at 100% of recommended levels in both pre- and postpartum diets on in vitro phagocytic activity of neutrophils, and in vivo IgG responses to an ovalbumin challenge during the transition period. In addition, we investigated the associations of these immunological responses with incidence of postpartum clinical diseases and the dynamic changes of metabolic markers during the transition period. Pregnant heifers and cows (n = 273) were enrolled at 45 ± 3 d before expected calving, blocked by parity and body condition score, and allocated randomly to STM or OTM supplementation.

Ketosis in dairy cattle is primarily diagnosed based on the concentrations of ketone bodies in the blood, milk, or urine. Cow-side tests using these fluids are available for rapid detection of elevated concentrations of ketone bodies. Although these tests have been extensively validated, the performance of different tests has not been compared over time.
