X-ray nanotomography is a powerful tool for the characterization of nanoscale materials and structures, but it is difficult to implement due to the competing requirements of X-ray flux and spot size. Due to this constraint, state-of-the-art nanotomography is predominantly performed at large synchrotron facilities. We present a laboratory-scale nanotomography instrument that achieves nanoscale spatial resolution while addressing the limitations of conventional tomography tools.

Objective: Our objectives with this study were to describe the frequency of selected cooccurring health conditions and individualized education program (IEP) services and post-high school transition planning for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and identify disparities by sex, intellectual ability, race or ethnicity, and geographic area.

Methods: The study sample included 1787 adolescents born in 2004 who were identified as having autism through a health and education record review through age 16 years in 2020. These adolescents were part of a longitudinal population-based surveillance birth cohort from the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network from 2004 to 2020 in 5 US catchment areas.

Low-cost clean primary production of magnesium metal is important for its use in many applications, from light-weight structural components to energy technologies. This work describes new experiments and cost and emissions analysis for a magnesium metal production process. The process combines molten salt electrolysis of MgO using MgF₂-CaF₂ electrolyte and a reactive liquid tin cathode, with gravity-driven multiple effect thermal system (G-METS) distillation to separate out the magnesium product, and re-use of the tin.

The N-nitroso-trischloroethylurea (NTCU)-induced mouse model of squamous lung carcinoma recapitulates human disease from premalignant dysplasia through invasive tumors, making it suitable for preclinical chemoprevention drug testing. Opioid overdose suppresses brainstem respiratory circuits, causes apnoea and may result in death. Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) at the cervical spinal cord facilitated motor activity in rodents and humans, and we hypothesized that EES of the cervical spinal cord could antagonize opioid-induced respiratory depression in humans. Eighteen patients requiring surgical access to the dorsal surface of the spinal cord between C2 and C7 received EES or sham stimulation for up to 90 s at 5 or 30 Hz during complete (OFF-State) or partial suppression (ON-State) of respiration induced by remifentanil.

While electroencephalogram (EEG) burst-suppression is often induced therapeutically using sedatives in the intensive care unit (ICU), there is hitherto no evidence with respect to its association to outcome in moderate-to-severe neurological patients. We examined the relationship between sedation-induced burst-suppression (SIBS) and outcome at hospital discharge and at 6-month follow up in patients surviving moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). For each of 32 patients recovering from coma after moderate-to-severe TBI, we measured the EEG burst suppression ratio (BSR) during periods of low responsiveness as assessed with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS).

A number of studies have shown high levels of thymidine phosphorylase (TP) expression in glioblastoma (GBM), with trace or undetectable TP levels in normal developed brain tissue. TP catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of thymidine to thymine and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate, maintaining nucleoside homeostasis for efficient DNA replication and cell division. The TP-mediated catabolism of thymidine is responsible for multiple protumor processes and can support angiogenesis, glycation of proteins, and alternative metabolism.
