Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major global health issue, necessitating effective surveillance through colonoscopy to identify patients at high or low risk of advanced colorectal neoplasia (ACN).
  • This study critically reviewed nine risk models that predict the occurrence of metachronous ACN, finding mixed results in validation and limitations in methodology across the studies examined.
  • While some models showed potential for clinical use, there is a need for better validation and comparisons of these models in diverse populations to enhance CRC surveillance practices.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental health condition for which current treatments have long-term efficacy in 50% of patients. There is a clear need for better understanding of the mechanisms underlying PTSD and the development of new treatment approaches. Analog trauma procedures in animals, such as the stress-enhanced fear learning (SEFL) procedure, can be used to produce behavioral and neurobiological changes that have validity in modeling PTSD.

Article Synopsis
  • The unfolded protein response is a key pathway in neurodegeneration, and trazodone, an antidepressant, may have therapeutic potential in this area.
  • A study of dementia patients in Cambridgeshire showed that trazodone is rarely prescribed and often at ineffective doses.
  • Patients who were prescribed trazodone showed more neuropsychiatric symptoms and were further along in their disease, indicating that more controlled studies are needed before dismissing trazodone's potential benefits.
