Tourette syndrome (TS) is a high-incidence neurobehavioral disorder that generally begins in childhood. Several factors play a role in its etiology, including genetic influence and auto-immune activation by streptococcal infections. In general, symptoms subside after the end of adolescence, but, in a significant number of patients, they remain in adulthood.

New optical phasing sensor technologies have been studied with a test bench experiment, called Active Phasing Experiment, on-sky at the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope. One of the sensors was of the Shack-Hartmann type using cylindrical lenslets across the segment borders for the measurement of the phasing errors. With bright stars, the precision of the measurement of piston steps at a single border was better than 9 nm wavefront RMS, and the precision of the closed-loop correction of the piston errors of the segments across the whole mirror was better than 10 nm wavefront RMS.

Sciatic nerve palsy is an uncommon complication of cardiac surgery and is thought to be induced by a combination of reduced femoral artery blood flow, small vessel vascular disease or prolonged hypoxia. We here describe a new case which is the first described with transient elevation of antiphospholipid antibodies. Although transient elevation of lupus coagulation inhibitor is known to occur frequently in patients treated in an intensive care unit, there are very few data about the possible role of antiphospholipid antibodies in the generation of ischemic neuropathies.
