Background: Targeting biopsy (TBx) of suspicious lesions combined with random systematic biopsy (SBx) improves detection rates of prostate cancer (PCa) during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/ultrasound (US) fusion prostate biopsy. However, this combination increases the number of biopsy cores, prolongs the procedure time, and increases complications and costs, leading to the overdiagnosis of clinically insignificant PCa (ciPCa). This study aims to evaluate the optimal sampling design to achieve a detection rate of clinically significant PCa (csPCa) equal to standard TBx with SBx with fewer biopsy cores.

We describe donor-transmitted metastatic lobular carcinoma to a male after kidney transplantation. Determining whether a post-transplant cancer is transplant associated, donor transmitted, or donor derived is significant for treatment, prognosis, and possibly management of other organ recipients.

Frailty is the decline in physical and cognitive reserves leading to increased vulnerability to stressors such as surgery or disease states. The goal of this pilot diagnostic accuracy study was to identify whether point-of-care ultrasound measurements of the quadriceps and rectus femoris muscles can be used to discriminate between frail and not-frail patients and predict postoperative outcomes.

Computed tomography (CT) revealed a large cyst on the posterior aspect of the prostate gland; he was ultimately diagnosed with a Müllerian duct cyst (MDC). Although much has been written on the radiologic diagnosis of such cysts, there is a paucity of recent literature concerning the pathological diagnosis.

Purpose: Capnography monitoring in non-intubated patients requires the use of an end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO) sampling line composed of a nasal or oral/nasal cannula connected to tubing that goes behind the ears to secure it in place. Some patients find wearing sampling lines to be uncomfortable, which can lead to compliance issues with monitoring. To address this important issue, we developed advanced sampling lines, designed to ameliorate the primary factors impacting patient tolerance.

This study aimed to assess cognitive function in women delivering during the COVID-19 pandemic, as compared to women who delivered before the COVID-19 pandemic. A cohort study was performed during the immediate postpartum period of women delivering singletons at term.

We retrospectively analyzed data of men who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy because of elevated PSA (≤ 20 ng/ml) or abnormal digital rectal examination. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis to compare PSA and PSAD performance and chi-square automatic interaction detector methodologies were used to identify predictors of clinically significant cancer (Gleason score ≥ 7 or international society of urological pathology grade group ≥ 2).

The aim of the current study was to assess the risk for post-partum depression among women delivering during the COVID-19 pandemic as compared to the risk among women delivering before the COVID-19 pandemic. A cohort study was performed among women delivering singletons at term which were recruited in the maternity wards of the Soroka University Medical Center. Recruitment was done during the COVID-19 strict isolation period (March 18 and April 29, 2020).

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) strain is an echocardiographic modality that can characterize left ventricular (LV) function with greater accuracy than ejection fraction. While decreases in global strain have been used to predict outcomes after cardiac surgery, changes in regional 3D longitudinal, circumferential, radial, and area strain have not been well described. The primary aim of this study was to define differential patterns in regional LV dysfunction after cardiac surgery using 3D speckle tracking strain imaging.

Study Design: A cross-sectional study was performed in women during the immediate postpartum period.
Early detection of acute myocardial ischemia is critical to prevent permanent myocardial damage. The impact of apical ischemia on global left ventricular (LV) function can be difficult to characterize using traditional volume-based echocardiography measures. Myocardial strain imaging is a sensitive, quantitative marker of myocardial deformation that can measure ventricular function.

The aim of this study was to investigate the change in left ventricular systolic function after cardiac surgery with 3-dimensional (3D) speckle-tracking strain imaging and to determine whether preoperative 3D strain is an independent predictor of acute and long-term clinical outcomes after aortic valve, mitral valve, and coronary artery bypass grafting operations.
Methods: In total, 163 adult patients undergoing aortic valve, mitral valve, and coronary artery bypass surgeries were enrolled prospectively and had complete data sets.
Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to use speckle-tracking strain imaging to evaluate the effect of general anesthesia (GA) and positive-pressure ventilation (PPV) on left atrial (LA) mechanics. The authors hypothesized that GA and PPV would be associated with a decrease in LA strain. The secondary aims were to investigate the effects of GA and PPV on traditional Doppler-derived measures of LA function and Doppler echocardiographic grade of diastolic function.

Many types of wound dressing formats are commercially available or have been investigated. We developed and studied hybrid bilayer wound dressings which combine a drug-loaded porous poly(dl-lactic-co-glycolic acid) top layer with a spongy collagen sublayer.

This study evaluated the efficacy of the Jarvik 2000 ventricular assist device (VAD) as a pulmonary pump to power a Fontan circuit in a large animal model.
Methods: Without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass, Fontan circulations were surgically created in 4 pigs (50 kg) using synthetic grafts from the inferior and superior vena cavas to the main pulmonary artery.
The structures of RNA molecules are often important for their function and regulation, yet there are no experimental techniques for genome-scale measurement of RNA structure. Here we describe a novel strategy termed parallel analysis of RNA structure (PARS), which is based on deep sequencing fragments of RNAs that were treated with structure-specific enzymes, thus providing simultaneous in vitro profiling of the secondary structure of thousands of RNA species at single nucleotide resolution. We apply PARS to profile the secondary structure of the messenger RNAs (mRNAs) of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and obtain structural profiles for over 3,000 distinct transcripts.

The absolute amounts are roughly proportional to the degree of disequilibration. Apparently, ordinary chondrites originally contained considerably larger amounts of primordial rare gases.
