Purpose: The use non-invasive or minimally invasive methods to accelerate orthodontic tooth movements (OTM) is desirable. In this regard, low-level laser therapy (LLLT, photobiomodulation) and piezocision are suggested. However, because the efficacies of these methods remain controversial/inconclusive, we investigated and compared these two methods.

Impaction of the anterior teeth, which is less frequent in central incisors, can cause serious esthetic and subsequent psychological problems for patients during the mixed dentition period. Traumatic injury to deciduous teeth is the most common etiologic factor. Thus, treatment of maxillary incisor impaction is highly important.

Background And Aims: Dentin hypersensitivity is a frequent oral condition among patients suffering from gingival recession. Recent studies have suggested that photobiomodulation has the potential to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. The present study aims to assess the effectiveness of a new design of photobiomodulation toothbrush with specific irradiation parameters as a homecare device in treating dentin hypersensitivity and to compare its therapeutic effect with that of fluoride varnish.

Background: Mechanical torque devices (MTDs) are one of the most commonly recommended devices used to deliver optimal torque to the screw of dental implants. Recently, high variability has been reported about the accuracy of spring-style mechanical torque devices (S-S MTDs). Joint stability and survival rate of fixed implant supported prosthesis depends on the accuracy of these devices.

A growth center of the mandible that contributes to its length and height is the mandibular condyle. Proliferation of prechondroblasts, followed by synthesis of the extracellular matrix and hypertrophy of the cartilage cells, governs the major part of condylar growth. The sample consisted of 54 male rats, weighing between 60 g and 80 g, divided randomly into three groups.

Myofacial pain dysfunction syndrome (MPDS) is the most common reason for pain and limited function of the masticatory system. The effects of low-level lasers (LLLs) for controlling the discomfort of patients are investigated frequently. However, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a particular source producing 660 nm and 890 nm wavelengths that was recommended to reduce of the pain in the masticatory muscles.

Direct pulp capping (DPC) is coverage of exposed pulp by a biocompatible material after traumatic or carious exposure. The purpose of this procedure is to seal this spot against bacterial leakage, stimulate dentinal barrier formation, and maintain the vitality of the pulp. Several factors contribute to the consequence of this treatment, such as the kind of material used and the procedural technique.

The exact mechanism of the ablation of tooth hard tissue with most common wavelengths, which are 2,940 nm and 2,780 nm, is not yet clear. There are several different theories, but none of them has yet been established. Concepts and methods of looking at these mechanisms have been based on heat formation and transformation, and mathematical calculations evaluating the outcome of ablation, such as looking at the shape of cuts.

This preliminary study was to investigate in vitro the Er,Cr:YSGG laser ablation capability, both range (enlargement aspects of laser tips corresponded to conventional endodontic files) and quality (removing of smear layer and opening of dentinal tubules) to clean and shape the root canal for final obturation step. The crowns of 15 extracted multi-rooted posterior human teeth were resected, and then 15 canals were prepared by an Er,Cr:YSGG laser up to 1.5 W (actual power output) using the step-back technique, while the other 15 canals (control) were enlarged conventionally by K-flex file.

Different ideas have been presented to describe the mechanism of augmented laser ablation of dental enamel with different shapes by adding water to the working environment. In this study, the influence of water-laser interaction on the surface of enamel during ablation was investigated at a wavelength of 2.94 microm with different distances between the laser tip and the enamel surface.

Biostimulatory effects of laser irradiation on cell proliferation and wound healing has been reported. However, little is known about the molecular basis of the mechanism. Interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrotic factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) play an important role in inflammation, while platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) and blood-derived fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) are the most important growth factors of periodontal tissues.

There are several studies done to show the comparability of laser scaling and root planing with routine methods. The most suitable wavelengths for such an application are reported as 2,940 and 2,780 nm. The superficial interactions of the current wavelength with root surface is investigated in this study to compare the crater and crack formation during the procedures between ultrasound and Er,Cr:yttrium-scandium-gallium garnet (YSGG; 2,780 nm) laser-treated teeth.

Dentine hypersensitivity has of long been known to be a common clinical problem in dental practices. Lasers have recently come to play a prominent role in the treatment of this disorder. They might, however, cause dental pulp damage.

It has been emphasized that one of the most valuable treatment objectives in dental practice is to afford the patient a pain-free treatment. By the evolution of the laser applications, the dental committee aimed to achieve this goal without analgesic drugs and painful methods. Orthodontic treatment is one of these concerns, that one of the major components of patient to reject this treatment is the pain accompanied during the different treatment phases.

The effects of low-level lasers on bone cellular activity, bone structures, bone healing, fibroblasts activity and inflammation process have already been investigated. Considering orthodontic tooth movement, which is a complicated inflammatory process involving simultaneous bone apposition and resorption, the aim of this controlled study is to investigate the quantitative effects of a pulsed 850 nm laser (Optodan) and a continuous 630 nm laser (KLO3) on the orthodontic tooth movement in rabbits. This experimental study was conducted on 18 male albino rabbits divided into three equal groups of control, Optodan and KLO3.

Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is one of the most common complications that affect patients after periodontal therapy. So far, many investigators have successfully used different types of laser on DH treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the comparative effect of Nd:YAG laser and Er:YAG laser on human teeth desensitization.

The thermal rise threshold of an 810-nm semi-conductor diode laser on the root surface when used in root canals in vitro for laser assisted root canal treatment is investigated in this study. A total of 50 human single-rooted extracted teeth were included. For this study, the canals were enlarged up to an apical size of ISO#50 file.
