Purpose Of Review: Diet and nutrition have emerged as key factors in the development and course of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including the approach to therapy. We present an overview of evidence-based recommendations and recent research in dietary therapy and nutrition management for patients with IBD.
Recent Findings: Patients with IBD should undergo a comprehensive nutrition assessment with the assistance of a registered dietitian (RD), including screening for micronutrient deficiencies.

Background: The diagnosis and management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) often requires multiple endoscopies. Serum biomarkers can be elevated in EoE patients, but their clinical utility in diagnosis and assessing response to treatment is not well established.
Goals: To evaluate serum biomarkers in EoE subjects compared with controls and assess longitudinally in response to treatment.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of extracolonic findings when screening is undertaken by CT colonography (CTC).
Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of patients completing a screening CTC from August 2003 to June 2006 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Extracolonic findings were categorized using a CTC reporting and data system that classifies findings as highly significant, likely significant, and insignificant.
Background: Fundic gland polyps (FGP) have been implicated with long-term proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use.
Aims: We attempted to investigate the impact of length and dosage of PPI therapy on the development of FGP.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of all patients who had gastric polyps removed during elective upper endoscopy between March and September 2007 as part of a prior prospective study protocol was carried out.
Anion gap, anion gap corrected for serum albumin, and base deficit are often used as surrogates for measuring serum lactate. None of these surrogates is postulated to predict hyperlactatemia in the critically ill. We prospectively collected data from September 2004 through August 2005 for 1381 consecutive admissions.
