This paper explores a novel challenge regarding bidirectional Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs): supervisory control amidst potential sensor faults. The proposed approach uses an event-based control architecture, guided by Supervisory Control Theory (SCT), to achieve non-blocking routing of AGVs. Unlike most routing approaches assuming full event observability, this paper investigates scenarios where events might become unobservable due to sensor faults or disturbances, which may affect the supervisor efficiency.

Natalizumab is a highly effective therapy for multiple sclerosis (MS). The preparation of chondroitin sulfate (CS) oligosaccharide mimetics, more easily synthesized than natural sequences, is a highly interesting task because these compounds pave the way for modulation of the biological processes in which CS is involved. Herein, we report the synthesis of CS type E analogues which present easily accessible glucose units instead of glucuronic acid (GlcA) moieties. NMR experiments and molecular dynamics simulations showed that the 3D structure of these compounds is similar to the structure of the natural CS-E oligosaccharides.

In this paper, we study conditions under which the zero-set of the inverse Jacobi multiplier of a smooth vector field contains its attractor/repeller compact sets. The work generalizes previous results focusing on sink singularities, orbitally asymptotic limit cycles, and monodromic attractor graphics. Taking different flows on the torus and the sphere as canonical examples of attractor/repeller sets with different topologies, several examples are constructed illustrating the results presented.

Background Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have been shown to be effective at accelerating return to functioning, reducing length of stay, and reducing cost per encounter at major medical centers and health systems across the United States and Europe. Implementation in the community hospital setting has been considered more challenging due to a wide range of factors. Here, we report the synthesis of a sulfated, fully protected hexasaccharide as a glycosaminoglycan mimetic and the study of its interactions with different growth factors: midkine, basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) and nerve growth factor (NGF). Following a fluorous-assisted approach, monosaccharide building blocks were successfully assembled and the target oligosaccharide was prepared in excellent yield. The use of more acid stable 4,6--silylidene protected glucosamine units was crucial for the efficiency of this strategy because harsh reaction conditions were needed in the glycosylations to avoid the formation of orthoester side products.

Purpose: To assess the effectiveness of low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy in patients with localized prostate cancer and to compare the outcome with predictions from Kattan and Partin nomograms at 60 months after seed implantation.

Material And Methods: One thousand, one hundred and eighty-seven patients with localized prostate cancer at low-, intermediate-, or high-risk of progression received LDR brachytherapy using iodine-125 seeds with curative intent, applied as monotherapy or in combination with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), and/or androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). At 60 months after seed implantation, data of 1,064 patients (1,058 alive + 6 who died of prostate cancer) were analyzed for biochemical progression-free survival (bPFS) based on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels using the Phoenix definition.

Here, we present a novel approach for the chemical synthesis of chondroitin and dermatan sulfate oligosaccharides. A key point of this strategy is the preparation and use of an N-trifluoroacetyl galactosamine building block containing a 4,6-O-di-tert-butylsilylene group. Glycosylation reactions proceeded in good yields (74-91%) with our protecting group distribution.

The preparation of three different families of lipophilic organoselenium compounds (aryl- and sugar-derived selenoureas, O-alkyl selenocarbamates and selenohydantoins) has been carried out in order to evaluate their in vitro antioxidant profile, analyzing the influence of the selenium-containing functional group, and the substituents on the activity. Title compounds have therefore been studied for the first time as free radical, hydrogen peroxide, alkyl peroxides and nitric oxide scavengers using colorimetric methods; furthermore, their glutathione peroxidase-like activity has also been analyzed by NMR spectroscopy. Free radical scavenging activity has been evaluated using the DPPH method; the strongest free radical scavengers were found to be both, aryl- and sugar-derived selenoureas, with EC₅₀ values ranging 19-46 μM.

The synthesis of well-defined oligosaccharides is crucial for the establishment of structure-activity relationships for specific sequences of heparin, contributing to the understanding of the biological role of this polysaccharide.
