Background: The Hartrampf perfusion zones of the lower abdominal flap are generally accepted. They were empirically based on the clinical impression of the perfusion in the first 16 unipedicled transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous flaps and have been uncritically adopted for the free transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous and the free deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap. Scientific data proving the validity of these perfusion zones do not exist.

The preliminary observation of marked erythrocyte microcytosis in patients treated with sirolimus (SRL) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) has been evaluated as part of a prospective study comparing SRL and cyclosporin A (CsA) as a primary immunosuppressant. Normal risk de novo kidney recipients were randomized either to SRL or to CsA. Additional immunosuppressants consisted of MMF and prednisone.

Background And Purpose: Previous work has shown that soluble heat shock protein 60 (HSP60; sHSP60), present in circulating blood, is associated with carotid atherosclerosis. In the current evaluation, we tested the hypothesis that sHSP60 levels are associated with the progression of carotid arteriosclerosis, prospectively.

Embryonic stem cells (ES cells) can differentiate into endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells (SMCs), which participate in vascular angiogenesis. In this study, we differentiated mouse ES cells into Sca-1(+) cells, which have the potential to serve as vascular progenitor cells, and mapped their proteome by 2-DE using a pH 3-10 non-linear gradient and 12% SDS-polyacrylamide gels. A subset of 300 protein spots was analysed and mapped, with 241 protein spots being identified by their PMF using MALDI-TOF MS or by partial amino acid sequencing using MS/MS.

Sirolimus inhibits human fibroblast cell proliferation in cell cultures from transbronchial biopsies of lung transplant recipients. However, a few cases of interstitial pneumonitis and bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia have been recently described in solid organ transplant recipients, including a fatality in a heart transplant recipient. We studied the patterns of pulmonary adverse effects associated with sirolimus in 4 renal transplant recipients who developed pulmonary opacities on chest radiograph, which were proved to be noninfectious in origin.

We present a numerically exact solution for the BCS Hamiltonian at any temperature, including the degrees of freedom associated with classical phase, as well as amplitude fluctuations via a Monte Carlo integration. This allows for an investigation over the whole range of couplings: from weak attraction, as in the well-known BCS limit, to the mainly unexplored strong-coupling regime of pronounced phase fluctuations. In the latter, two characteristic temperatures T(*) and T(c), associated with short- and long-range ordering, respectively, can be identified in a mean-field-motivated Hamiltonian.

We report the synthesis of novel edge-sharing chain systems Na(3)Cu(2)O(4) and Na(8)Cu(5)O(10), which form insulating states with commensurate charge order. We identify these systems as one-dimensional Wigner lattices, where the charge order is determined by long-range Coulomb interaction and the number of holes in the d shell of Cu. Our interpretation is supported by x-ray structure data as well as by an analysis of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat data.

Abdominoplasty procedures involve a high risk of early complications, including hematomas, seromas, necrosis, and wound-healing problems. Their rationale is evident from the vascular anatomy of the abdominal wall, as traditional abdominoplasty includes a division of the main perforating vessels. The synthesis of novel ruthenium-based metathesis catalysts containing the saturated 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-2-ylidene ligand, that is, [RuCl2(NHC)[=CH-2-(2-PrO)-5-NO(2)-C6H3]] (1) and [Ru(CF3COO)2(NHC)[=CH-2-(2-PrO)-5-NO2-C6H3]] (2) (NHC=1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-2-ylidene) is described. Both catalysts are highly active in ring-closing metathesis (RCM) and ring-opening cross-metathesis (ROCM). Compound 1 shows moderate activity in enyne metathesis.
