The title compound, (NH)[W(CHNO)O]·4HO, was obtained from a mixture of tungstic acid, ammonia and ethyl-enedi-amine-tetra-acetic acid (Hedta) in a 2:4:1 ratio. The anion of the complex contains two WO units and one bridging edta ligand. Each central metal atom is tridentately coordinated by nitro-gen and two carboxyl-ate groups of the edta ligand, together with the three oxido ligands, producing a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment around each tungsten atom.

The 2-hydrazino-pyridine precursor has been widely used to prepare ligands of various kinds by condensation with carbonyl compounds. These types of ligands are suitable for synthesizing novel transition metal (II) complexes with inter-esting magnetic properties. In this context we have synthesized the ligand 1-(2-hy-droxy-phenyl-2-ethyl-idene)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)hydrazine (H) which was used in the preparation of the mononuclear title complex, [Ni(CHNO)(CHNO)]NO·0.

The search for novel manganese(II) compounds having inter-esting magnetic properties, using 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-idene)hydrazine (H) as a tridendate ligand, led to the preparation of the title mononuclear material, [MnCl(NO)(CHN)(HO)], and the determination of its structure by XRD. The asymmetric unit comprises a discrete mol-ecule in which the cation Mn is hepta-coordinated. The environment around the cation is an almost perfect penta-gonal bipyramid.

The title compound, C(22)H(18)N(4)O(2)S(2), was characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR, solid-state IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallographic techniques. The crystal structure determination reveals that the twisting modes of the two side arms are different [C-N-C-O and C-N-C-N torsion angles = -1.2 (3) and 1.
