Introduction: High-frequency recurring orders placed through the electronic medical record (EMR) may contribute to unnecessary care in hospitalised patients. This quality initiative sought to develop and pilot test a hospital order set for bundled review and de-implementation of common recurring orders.
Methods: A voluntary-use EMR order set was developed to display low-frequency order alternatives for common hospital care components.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of clinical decision support for reducing misallocation of physical therapy (PT) consults.
Design: A prospective quasi-experimental study. Between October 2018 and November 2021, routinely documented data on functional status and physical therapy referrals were collected from electronic medical records.
Background: Physical therapy (PT) appears beneficial for hospitalized patients. Little is known about PT practice patterns and costs across hospitals.
Objective: To examine whether receiving PT is associated with specific patient and hospital characteristics for patients with pneumonia.
Background: Annually more than 300,000 patients hospitalized for pneumonia need postacute care. Patients and systems prefer home discharge, but physical limitations often necessitate postacute care. It is unknown whether frequency of physical therapy in the hospital affects postacute care discharges.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess sleep among a sample of predominantly US frontline health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic using validated measures through a survey distributed on social media.
Methods: A self-selection survey was distributed on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for 16 days (August 31 to September 15, 2020), targeting health care workers who were clinically active during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Purpose: We have previously demonstrated that ritonavir targeting of glycolysis is growth inhibitory and cytotoxic in a subset of multiple myeloma cells. In this study, our objective was to investigate the metabolic basis of resistance to ritonavir and to determine the utility of cotreatment with the mitochondrial complex I inhibitor metformin to target compensatory metabolism.
Experimental Design: We determined combination indices for ritonavir and metformin, impact on myeloma cell lines, patient samples, and myeloma xenograft growth.
Exposure of newborn calves to chronic hypoxia causes pulmonary artery (PA) hypertension and remodeling. Previous studies showed that the redox-sensitive transcription factor, early growth response-1 (Egr-1), is upregulated in the PA of chronically hypoxic calves and regulates cell proliferation. Furthermore, we established in mice a correlation between hypoxic induction of Egr-1 and reduced activity of extracellular superoxide dismutase (EC-SOD), an antioxidant that scavenges extracellular superoxide.
