Bringing biomechanics to ballet: a feasibility study using wearable technology during grand allegro.

Quantifying impact accelerations during ballet class may assist load management. The largest impact accelerations occur during the sequence of large (single or double-leg) jumps (grand allegro) but are potentially the most challenging class component for utilising wearable technology, and feasibility is unknown. This pilot study utilised wearable technology during class to (1) explore feasibility and acceptability, (2) quantify impact accelerations during the entire sequence of jumps during grand allegro and (3) compare impact accelerations between limbs (preferred and non-preferred landing limb).

Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome and Autism Traits are Empirically Distinct from each Other and from Other Psychopathology Dimensions.

Recently, an association between cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS), formerly sluggish cognitive tempo, and autism has been documented, but it is not known if the association is due to overlapping autism and CDS traits or if CDS is empirically distinct from autism. Mothers rated 2,209 children 4-17 years (1,177 with autism, 725 with ADHD-Combined type, and 307 with ADHD-Inattentive type) on the Pediatric Behavior Scale. Factor analysis of the Pediatric Behavior Scale items indicated that CDS and autism traits are empirically distinct from each other without cross-loading and are distinct from eight other factors (attention deficit, impulsivity, hyperactivity, oppositional behavior, irritability/anger, conduct problems, depression, and anxiety).

Objective: This study investigated the associations between aggression subtypes (reactive, proactive, relational, and slow dissipation of aggression), callous-unemotional traits (CU), irritability (IRR), and sex among children.

Method: The sample included 508 children 5 to 12 years of age, rated by their mothers.

Results: A 4-factor model of aggression subtypes (reactive, proactive, relational, slow dissipation) provided a good fit to the data.

Pharmacokinetics and Safety of Endotracheal Lidocaine for Endotracheal Intubation in Critically Ill Children.

Introduction: Critically ill pediatric patients are endotracheally intubated in pediatric intensive care units for a variety of illnesses and indications. Management of an endotracheal tube (ETT) requires suctioning to remove patient secretions and prevent occlusion, but this practice can be associated with adverse events, such as hemodynamic deterioration or increases in intracranial pressure. Instillation of lidocaine into the ETT before suctioning may be beneficial in preventing these events.

This study aims to (1) identify and (2) assess the quality of dance performance outcome measures for ballet, modern and contemporary dance. A 6-Week Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment Intervention to Improve Professional Ballet Dancers' Psychological States Around Performance.

Mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches have been trialled in professional sport. The present pilot study was a randomized controlled trial with professional ballet dancers investigating the effectiveness of the Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) approach, developed for athletes, compared to an education program which included topics relevant to ballet and performance. Participants included 16 professional ballet dancers (2 men and 14 women) who were randomly assigned into either the MAC or education group for 1 session per week, for 6 weeks.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder in Autism and ADHD.

Our study compared oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) in children with autism to ADHD-Combined presentation and ADHD-Inattentive presentation. Mothers of 2,400 children 3-17 years old with autism and/or ADHD completed the Pediatric Behavior Scale. ADHD-Combined was most strongly associated with ODD, with an ODD prevalence of 53% in children with ADHD-Combined only.

Evaluation of the Effect of Smart Pump Interoperability on Infusion Errors in the Pediatric Hospital Setting.

Objectives: Smart pump interoperability is a newer technology integrating intravenous medication -infusion instructions from the electronic medical record into a smart pump. This technology has demonstrated significantly decreased medication errors in the adult population; however, this has not been reported in pediatrics. The purpose of this study was to compare the frequency and severity of infusion related errors before and after the implementation of smart pump interoperability at a pediatric institution.

The purpose of the present study is to compare risk and predictors of poor safety awareness and accidental injuries in ASD, ADHD, and neurotypical samples. Neurodivergent groups (ADHD-I n = 309; ADHD-C n = 747; ASD-only n = 328; ASD + ADHD n = 1,108) were 2-17 years old. The neurotypical group (n = 186) was 6-12 years of age.

Therefore, the purpose of this scoping review was to map the evidence and identify knowledge gaps related to the effect of wearing pointe shoes on professional and recreational ballet dancers.

Objective: This is the first study investigating physical aggression toward others and toward self (self-injurious behavior [SIB]) and its association with comorbid disorders and symptoms and demographics in large autism, ADHD, and population-based samples.

Method: The referred sample comprised 2,456 children (1,415 with autism, 739 with ADHD-combined, and 302 with ADHD-inattentive) aged 2 to 17 years. The population-based sample consisted of 665 children evaluated at baseline (6-12 years of age) and 259 reevaluated at follow-up (12-17 years).

Due to its genetic amenability coupled with advances in genome editing, zebrafish is an excellent model to examine the function of (epi)genomic elements. Here, we repurposed the Ac/Ds maize transposition system to efficiently characterise zebrafish cis-regulated elements, also known as enhancers, in F0-microinjected embryos. We further used the system to stably express guide RNAs enabling CRISPR/dCas9-interference (CRISPRi) perturbation of enhancers without disrupting the underlying genetic sequence.
