Background: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries; however, the majority of these deaths could be avoided with adequate obstetric care. Analyzing severe maternal outcomes (SMO) has been a major approach for evaluating the quality of the obstetric care provided, since the morbid events that lead to maternal death generally occur in sequence. The objective of this study was to analyze the clinical profile, management, maternal outcomes and factors associated with SMO in women who developed PPH and were admitted to an obstetric intensive care unit (ICU) in northeastern Brazil.

Background: Usually, the teaching process of eutocia and dystocia on large animals is supported by the use of photographs, videos, animations and texts with descriptions of the births and the difficulties of delivery, being not enough to provide an effective experiential learning process in veterinary obstetrics. This study aimed to evaluate the learning and the student's perception of the impact of using an obstetric box and an articulated dummy as a teaching resource in a dynamic game methodology on learning obstetric diagnoses and procedures.

Methods: Veterinary students attended a theoretical class about foetal disposition and obstetrics manoeuvres and later attended a practical class about the same topic using an obstetric box and an articulated foal dummy.

We evaluated the influence of bone tissue type on stress distribution in full-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses using a three-dimensional finite element analysis. Stresses in cortical and trabecular bones were also investigated. Edentulous mandible models with four implants inserted into the interforaminal region were constructed from different bone types: type 1 - compact bone; type 2 - compact bone surrounding dense trabecular bone; type 3 - a thin layer of compact bone surrounding trabecular bone; and type 4 - low-quality trabecular bone.

This study evaluated the stress distribution in mandibular full-arch implant-supported fixed dentures with different veneering and metallic infrastructure materials, using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Ten models were obtained from an edentulous human mandible with a complete denture fixed by four implants. Ten acrylic resin denture teeth brands were evaluated: Art Plus (AP), Biolux (BX), Biotone IPN (BI), Magister (MG), Mondial 6 (MD), Premium 6 (PR), SR Vivodent PE (SR), Trilux (TR), Trubyte Biotone (TB), and Vipi Dent Plus (VP). Purpose: To evaluate the torque stability of different UCLA retention screws of single implant-supported crowns submitted to mechanical cycling.

Materials And Methods: Crowns fabricated from nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy were attached to external-hexagon implants and grouped by the different retention screws used (n = 10): Ti, titanium screws (BRUNIHT, Biomet 3i); Au, gold-palladium screws with 24-carat gold coating (Gold-Tite, Biomet 3i); TiC, titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) screw with diamondlike carbon coating (Neotorque, Neodent); and TiN, Ti-6Al-4V screw with aluminum-titanium-nitride coating (Ti-Tite, Conexão). Three initial removal torque (RT) values were obtained for each screw after torque insertion using an analog torque gauge.

The effects of carbamide peroxide, hydrogen peroxide and cola soft drink on the topographic modifications of commercially-pure titanium (CP-Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V were investigated. Ti discs were divided into 18 groups (n = 4) based on the solution treatment and Ti type. The screw loosening of implant-supported prostheses is a common mechanical failure and is related to several factors as insertion torque and preload. The aim of this study was to evaluate the torque maintenance of retention screws of tapered abutments and cylinders of Morse taper implants submitted to retightening and detorque measurements. Two groups were obtained (n = 12): group I-tapered abutment connected to the implant with titanium retention screw and group II-cylinder with metallic base connected to tapered abutment with titanium retention screw.
