Erythema multiforme is an acute hypersensitivity eruption with sharply demarcated papules and plaques. Article Synopsis
  • Bacterial skin infections are common in travelers and usually clear up easily, but post-travel recurrent furunculosis (PTRF) is a new issue where multiple boils appear after returning from tropical trips.
  • A study analyzed young, healthy travelers who experienced PTRF, noting that the first boil typically started at the end of their trip and lasted an average of 8.4 months, with 4.2 recurrences, but these recurrences became milder over time.
  • The study found that Methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) was the most common bacteria involved, and PTRF likely results from temporary immune changes triggered by travel to tropical regions.
