Objective: Anxiety and depression are common comorbidities in people diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite concomitant psychological symptomatology being reported in 22-48% of people with COPD, most literature focuses on identifying the risk factors for anxiety or depression separately. Therefore, our objective was to determine whether there is an association between people living with concomitant anxiety and depression and sociodemographic risk factors in people and living with COPD.

COPD patients (n = 56) completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). These scores were compared to confirmed clinical diagnoses of depression and anxiety using the Mini Neuropsychiatric Interview.
