Background: Titanium plantar plates have proven successful in the fixation of the first tarsometatarsal arthrodesis (TMT). However, a second surgery is typically needed for implant removal, and potential adverse effects, carried by the conventional implantations, are not uncommon. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a novel magnesium-based plantar plate system provides similar fusion stability to a titanium-based plantar plate system under various loading conditions.

Purpose: Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT), an alternative treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, shows satisfactory post-operative results. However, the biomechanical quantities and consequences after VBT surgery remain largely unknown. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the spinal biomechanics during different motions using a multibody simulation approach.

Introduction: Thi study evalautes a new bone-preserving femoral head cover that mimics the articular cartilage of the femoral head.

Methods: A specially developed polyurethane (PU) was evaluated in biocompatibility (cytotoxicity test) and mechanical response to tensile loading. In the cytotoxicity test, steam sterilized (SS) and ethylene oxide sterilized (EtO) PU samples were incubated separately in a cell culture medium.

Tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) negatively impact the stability and kinematics of the knee. Interference screws (ISs) are used for graft fixation in ACL reconstruction and provide sufficient fixation strength to withstand the patients' activities during the graft-to-bone integration process. Magnesium is a novel material used to manufacture IS given its strength and bioabsorbability.

An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a common treatment for patients with ACL rupture that aims to regain pre-injury knee stability and kinematics. During the ACL reconstruction, one method to fix the graft is the use of an interference screw (IS). The IS should provide initial stability and secure the graft during the healing period.

In this study, three different musculoskeletal modeling approaches were compared to each other. The objective was to show the possibilities in the case of a simple mechanical model of the wrist, using a simple multi-body-simulation (MBS) model, and using a more complex and patient-specific adaptable wrist joint MBS model. Musculoskeletal modeling could be a useful alternative, which can be practiced as a non-invasive approach to investigate body motion and internal loads in a wide range of conditions.

The human wrist joint is an elegant mechanism. The wrist allows the positioning and orienting of the hand to the forearm. The computational modeling of the human hand, especially of the wrist joint, can reveal important information about biomechanical mechanisms and provide the basis for its dysfunction and pathologies.
