Objectives: To determine the degree of relationship between iodine concentrations derived from dual-energy CT (DECT) and perfusion CT parameters in patients with advanced HCC under treatment.
Methods: In this single-centre IRB approved study, 16 patients with advanced HCC treated with sorafenib or radioembolization who underwent concurrent dynamic perfusion CT and multiphase DECT using a single source, fast kV switching DECT scanner were included. Written informed consent was obtained for all patients.
Background: Sorafenib is the recommended treatment for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of sorafenib to that of selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT) with yttrium-90 (Y) resin microspheres in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods: SARAH was a multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, investigator-initiated, phase 3 trial done at 25 centres specialising in liver diseases in France.
Unlabelled: In patients with polycystic liver disease (PLD), development of cysts induces hepatic venous outflow obstruction (HVOO) and parenchymal modifications, challenging the paradigm of a normal noncystic liver parenchyma. The aims were to reappraise the pathology of the noncystic parenchyma, by focusing on HVOO lesions; and to investigate the association with outflow obstruction at imaging and perioperative course after liver resection. This is a retrospective study conducted in one tertiary center between 1993 and 2014.

MR imaging is superior for depicting NELM compared to US, CT, and somatostatin receptor scintigraphy. Diffusion-weighted MR imaging is more sensitive for detecting NELM than both T2-weighted and dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MR sequences, and should be systematically performed.

The role of the radiologist is therefore to differentiate these lesions from HCC to avoid under- and overdiagnosis. There are several ways of classifying these lesions: those which predate the development of fibrosis and cirrhosis (cystic lesions, hemangioma), those related to or a consequence of cirrhosis (regenerative nodules, dysplastic nodules, focal fibrosis, peribiliary cysts, shunts, or even cholangiocarcinoma), and those related to the underlying cause of chronic liver disease (lymphoma).

We aimed at running a larger-scale meta-analysis of individual data. Centers which have worked with Aixplorer ultrasound equipment were contacted to share their data.

Patients And Methods: In a multicentre prospective trial, 442 patients have been enrolled. Within a month, CEUS, CT and MRI were performed for all patients.
Background: Persistent or chronic intestinal ischemic injury (i3) can lead to severe malnutrition and acute mesenteric ischemia. Although recommended, revascularization of splanchnic arteries is sometimes unrealizable.
Methods: We report a case series of iloprost use in consecutive stable patients with persistent i3 unsuitable for revascularization followed in a tertiary care center.
Purpose: To re-evaluate and compare CT features of neuroendocrine liver metastases (NLM) from pancreatic (p) and enteric (e) gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) tumours.
Material And Methods: From 2006-2013, all patients with proven GEP-neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) with at least one NLM, no previous treatment were included. On unenhanced, arterial and portal phases, NLMs were characterized as hypo-, iso- or hyperattenuating in consensus by 2 radiologists blinded to clinical data.
Objectives: To identify predictive factors for irreversible transmural intestinal necrosis (ITIN) in acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) and establish a risk score for ITIN.
Methods: This single-center prospective cohort study was performed between 2009 and 2015 in patients with AMI. The primary outcome was the occurrence of ITIN, confirmed by specimen analysis in patients who underwent surgery.
Background: Visual semi-quantitative assessment of liver tumour burden for neuroendocrine tumour liver metastases is often used in patient management and outcome. However, published data on the reproducibility of these evaluations are lacking.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the interobserver and intraobserver agreement of a visual semi-quantitative assessment of liver tumour burden using CT scan.
Purpose: To evaluate if the presence/size of a para-umbilical vein (PUV) on computed tomography (CT) are associated with a first esophageal variceal hemorrhage (EVH) in patients with cirrhosis and whether imaging features can help identify patients at increased risk of EVH.
Materials And Methods: From January 2010 to June 2012 patients with cirrhosis who underwent CT and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy within six months were included. The presence/size of PUV was noted.
Gadoxetic acid is extensively used in the following 3 main clinical situations: characterization of small nodules in patients with cirrhosis, preoperative staging of liver metastases, and characterization of incidentally discovered focal liver lesions. Owing to the rapid entry of gadoxetic acid into hepatocytes, the traditional features of liver tumors are modified on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, especially during delayed phase sequences. Thus, although the added value of gadoxetic acid for the detection and characterization of focal liver lesions is now clear, its unique pharmacokinetics as well as the presence of mimicking and atypical lesions may lead to misdiagnoses.

The prime differential diagnoses include hepatocellular adenoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and hypervascular metastasis. As the management of FNH is typically conservative, imaging plays a key role in diagnostic pathway, and misdiagnosis may have a major clinical effect.

The efficacy and safety of this procedure have been sources of debate and disagreement for years. The purpose of this study was to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of aspiration sclerotherapy in a systematic review of the literature.

Purpose To evaluate the long-term safety, technical success, and efficacy of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in a series of patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS), and to determine the predictors of shunt dysfunction. Materials and Methods From 2004 to 2013, all patients with primary BCS referred for TIPS placement were included in the study. The primary and secondary technical success rates and the number and types of early (ie, before day 7) complications were noted.

Materials and Methods Consecutive patients with chronic liver disease scheduled for liver biopsy were prospectively recruited from November 2010 to October 2012 for this institutional review board-approved study after they provided written informed consent. Sixty-eight patients underwent three-dimensional MR elastography and intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted MR imaging with a 1.

Response to treatment was evaluated on computed tomography scan by 2 independent readers based on RECIST, mRECIST, and EASL criteria, and compared with tumor necrosis assessed by explant pathology. Necrosis was defined as major when >90%.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFunctional imaging encompasses techniques capable of assessing physiological parameters of tissues, and offers useful clinical information in addition to that obtained from morphological imaging. Such techniques may include magnetic resonance imaging with diffusion-weighted sequences or hepatobiliary contrast agents, perfusion imaging, or molecular imaging with radiolabelled tracers. The liver is of major importance in oncological practice; not only is hepatocellular carcinoma one of the malignancies with steadily rising incidence worldwide, but hepatic metastases are regularly observed with a range of solid neoplasms.
