Combinatorial optimization is a broadly attractive area for potential quantum advantage, but no quantum algorithm has yet made the leap. Noise in quantum hardware remains a challenge, and more sophisticated quantum-classical algorithms are required to bolster their performance. Here, we introduce an iterative quantum heuristic optimization algorithm to solve combinatorial optimization problems.

The stranglehold of low temperatures on fascinating quantum phenomena in one-dimensional quantum magnets has been challenged recently by the discovery of anomalous spin transport at high temperatures. Whereas both regimes have been investigated separately, no study has attempted to reconcile them. For instance, the paradigmatic quantum Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain falls at low temperature within the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid framework, while its high-temperature dynamics is superdiffusive and relates to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class in 1+1 dimensions.

Article Synopsis
  • Aquaporin water channels (AQPs) are important transmembrane proteins that facilitate the movement of water and solutes across cell membranes, and their specific roles in silver birch are not well understood.
  • A genome analysis of silver birch identified 33 potential AQP genes organized into five distinct subfamilies, each with conserved structural features and varying functions.
  • Despite finding that 23 of these genes are actively transcribed, the study observed no significant expression changes in leaves under cold stress, suggesting that this species has unique adaptive mechanisms to environmental challenges.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied the NMR relaxation rate in Bromine-doped DTN (Ni(Cl_{1-x}Br_{x})_{2}-4SC(NH_{2})_{2}) to investigate spin dynamics in a "Bose-glass" state.
  • They found a strong peak in spin fluctuations at a specific magnetic field (H^{*}≅13.6 T), which appears to be related to changes in energy levels due to doping.
  • The outcome enhances the understanding of impurities in this system and offers insights into Bose-glass physics, supported by related theoretical research.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the effects of high magnetic fields on a disordered quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnetic material (Ni(Cl_{1-x}Br_{x})_{2}-4SC(NH_{2})_{2), focusing on how Br-doping affects the system's magnetic properties.
  • - A complex phase diagram emerges from the interplay of disorder, interactions, and external magnetic fields, revealing phenomena such as a Bose condensate of magnons that disappears at 12.3 T, followed by a resurgence of coherence around 13.6 T due to doping.
  • - The findings indicate that interchain couplings lead to long-range order that depends on impurity concentration, suggesting that this "minicondensation
