Usefulness of ENT clinical examinations in hospitalised patients chronically addicted to alcohol and tobacco to detect head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. A retrospective study of 159 patients.

Objective: To determine whether an ENT clinical screening examination done on all patients chronically addicted to alcohol or tobacco would allow the early diagnosis of cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract.

Study Design: Case series with chart review.

Setting: Non-university general hospital.

Sorafenib induces ferroptosis in human cancer cell lines originating from different solid tumors.

Background/aim: Ferroptosis is a recently identified form of regulated necrosis that can be experimentally induced in cancer cells with the chemical inducer erastin. Recently, we identified sorafenib, an inhibitor of oncogenic kinases, as an inducer of ferroptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Whether sorafenib is able to exert its ferroptotic activity in cancer cells originating from other tissues is presently unclear.
