The HeartMate 3 (HM3, Abbott) left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is the only commercially available option considered suitable for long-term circulatory support. External compression of the outflow graft causing obstruction (eOGO) is a serious adverse event affecting patients on long-term support. The obstruction occurs due to the accumulation of gelatinous substance between the bend relief and outflow graft.

Office-Based Serial Intralesional Steroid Injections in Benign Subglottic Stenosis-First Results.

Objective: Serial intralesional steroid injections (SILSI) are increasingly used in the treatment of idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) and auto-immune related subglottic stenosis (SGS), which are both known for their high rate of recurrences. SILSI could potentially prolong the time to re-intervention. We evaluated the effects of adjuvant SILSI in iSGS and auto-immune related SGS-patients on time to reintervention and spirometry results.

Problem: Approximately 100,000 individuals in the United States have sickle cell disease (SCD). These individuals face multiple barriers to equitable care. At Brigham and Women's Hospital, existing health inequities for these patients were compounded by admitting, rounding, and team structures that assigned patients with SCD to multiple medicine teams with a hematologist attending, leading to delays in patient care and gaps in residents' hematology knowledge.

Objectives: Uniform evaluation of treatment effect on the quality of voice in adductor spasmodic dysphonia (AdSD) is challenging due to the broad variety of available outcome measurement instruments (OMIs). The European Laryngological Society categorized five types of measurement domains for voice quality evaluations: patient-reported outcome measures, perceptual analyses, acoustic analyses, visual analyses, and aerodynamic measurements. The aim of this study was to propose a core outcome set (COS) for these domains, enabling systematic assessments of treatment effects on the quality of voice in patients with AdSD.

In this study, we report the long-term results of endoscopic laser thyroarytenoid (TA) myoneurectomy versus BTX treatment in the same patients with AdSD.

With time, it may give rise to benign or malignant tumors such as trichoblastoma, syringocystadenoma papilliferum, and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Rarely, other types of neoplasms may develop.

The Effect of a Student-Run Free Clinic on Hospital Utilization.

Student-run free clinics (SRFCs) serve uninsured patients and offer unique educational opportunities. However, the impact of these clinics on hospital utilization is unclear. In this pre-post observational study, we used multivariable modeling to test the hypothesis that patients of Shade Tree Clinic, the SRFC affiliated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), would have decreased hospital utilization after joining the clinic.
