The 25-question Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS-25) is a tool to identify locomotive syndrome, however, this tool is associated with the problem of a low complete response rate. We conducted this cross-sectional study of 2,474 community-dwelling residents to investigate the clinical characteristics of individuals who are prone to provide incomplete responses to the GLFS-25 questionnaire. The participants were divided into the following four groups based on the number of the GLFS-25 items they answered: 0 (n=279), 1-21 (n=36), 22-24 (n=273), and 25 (n=1,886).

This study aimed to determine the differences in perioperative parameters and complication rates between BSTKA and staged TKA in the Japanese population. We retrospectively reviewed 531 patients who underwent BSTKA or staged TKA between 2012 and 2021.

Methods: Data from 616 patients (800 hips) with hip dysplasia who underwent TOA between November 1998 and December 2019 were reviewed. The median follow-up period was 8.
Numerous studies have explored the connection between lumbar osteophytes, their pathophysiology, and instability since Macnab's 1971 report on traction spurs as an indicator of lumbar instability. This study provides a narrative historical overview of traction spurs, a classic finding that suggests lumbar instability. It summarizes the causes of anterior lumbar vertebral osteophytes, the relationship between traction spurs and lumbar spinal instability, and the clinical significance of traction spurs.

It removes a spinal disc and insert a cage or bone graft to promote solid fusion. Extensive research on LIF has been supported by numerous animal studies, which are being developed to enhance fusion rates and reduce the complications associated with the procedure.

This study aimed to compare the efficacy of barbed sutures and interrupted sutures in capsular and fascial closure during total hip arthroplasty.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty between April 2017 and March 2021.
Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical outcomes and factors contributing to failure of transposition osteotomy of the acetabulum (TOA), a type of spherical periacetabular osteotomy, for advanced osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia.
Methods: We reviewed patients with Tönnis grade 2 osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia who underwent TOA between November 1998 and December 2019. Patient demographic details, osteotomy-related complications, and the modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) were obtained via medical notes review.
Background: This study aimed to determine the clinical outcomes, predictors of suboptimal functional improvement, and factors influencing patient satisfaction following conversion of a fused hip to total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinical and radiographic data was performed on 83 patients (83 hips) who underwent fused hip conversion to THA. Implant survival and predictors of poor functional outcome (Harris hip score < 70) were analyzed.
Background: Serum level of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRACP5b) is an excellent serum marker of bone resorption. In patients with giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB), TRACP5b levels are reportedly elevated. This study investigated whether TRACP5b could be a diagnostic serum marker and be useful for detecting postoperative disease progression for GCTB.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine the complication rate and the role of frailty in patient selection for BSTKA. We analyzed data from 434 patients who underwent BSTKA between February 2012 and January 2021, examining demographic factors and preoperative blood test results.

Treatment requires gradual relief of pain and preservation of function, with a choice between palliative measures and surgery. This case indicates that total talar replacement is an effective intervention for localized talar metastases and highlights the importance of early intervention.

Although the field of Japanese orthopaedic surgery includes the lowest proportion of women and lags in gender diversity, reports on the current gender diversity status in academic activities are scarce. We investigated changes in women's participation in academic activities at the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) annual meetings over the past 11 years.

Spinal metastases can significantly impair activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life (QOL), compared with other types of bone metastases, as they are characterized with severe pain and paralysis caused by skeletal-related events. Reduced ADL can also lead to treatment limitations as certain anticancer agents and radiation therapy are not compatible treatments; thus, leading to a shorter life expectancy.

Sudden pain from the neck to the back and subsequent extremity paralysis necessitate immediate head and cervical magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography, keeping SSEH in mind. Although surgery is recommended for progressive paralysis, conservative treatment is indicated for mildly symptomatic cases.

Representative cases with AVA scores of 1 (case 1), 3 (case 2), and 5 (case 3) among patients with vertebral body fractures who underwent BKP were analyzed. A FEM model consisting of 5 vertebral bodies was created, including the injured vertebral body in each case.
