To compare the postoperative complications and clinical outcomes of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) in eyes with previous glaucoma filtering surgery. In this retrospective comparative case series, we analysed postoperative visual acuity and intraocular pressure, graft survival, rate of graft detachment and/or dislocation, number of rebubbling and/or graft repositioning procedures, and graft rejection or failure (primary and secondary). Sixteen eyes with DMEK and 80 eyes with DSAEK with previous glaucoma surgery were studied.

Purpose: This case report delineates the intricacies and challenges encountered in cataract surgery in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type VI presenting with advanced Keratoglobus (KG), severe cataract and brittle cornea.

Observations: Despite meticulous planning and intraoperative precautions, including phacoemulsification with reduced intraocular pressure (low bottle height), the patient experienced corneal ruptures necessitating a shift to Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE). Postoperative management involved corneal suturing and vigilant follow-up.

Analysis of carotenoid-accumulating roots revealed that oxidative carotenoid degradation yields glyoxal and methylglyoxal. Our data suggest that these compounds are detoxified via the glyoxalase system and re-enter primary metabolic pathways. In this paper, the accurate determination of the size and size distribution of bipyramidal anatase nanoparticles (NPs) after deposition as single particles on a silicon substrate by correlative Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis is described as a new measurement procedure for metrological purposes. The knowledge of the exact orientation of the NPs is a crucial step in extracting the real 3D dimensions of the particles. Two approaches are proposed to determine the geometrical orientation of individual nano-bipyramides: (i) AFM profiling along the long bipyramid axis and (ii) stage tilting followed by SEM imaging.

In plant mitochondria, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-malic enzyme (NAD-ME) has a housekeeping function in malate respiration. In different plant lineages, NAD-ME was independently co-opted in C4 photosynthesis. In the C4 Cleome species, Gynandropsis gynandra and Cleome angustifolia, all NAD-ME genes (NAD-MEα, NAD-MEβ1, and NAD-MEβ2) were affected by C4 evolution and are expressed at higher levels than their orthologs in the C3 species Tarenaya hassleriana.
