Rare etiology of colonic intussusception involving an adult with emphysematous cystic enteropathy: A case report and review of literature.

Background: Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI), characterized by a collection of gas-filled cysts in the intestinal wall, is an uncommon but well-known condition in gastroenterology. Abdominal pain is the most frequent symptom associated with PCI. Intussusception represents a potential cause of recurrent abdominal pain or emergency presentation.

Is health-related quality of life trajectory associated with dialysis modality choice in advanced chronic kidney disease?

Background: Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease have lower health-related quality of life (HRQOL) than the general population. There is uncertainty regarding patterns of HRQOL changes before dialysis initiation. This study aimed to characterise HRQOL trajectory and assess its potential association with intended dialysis modality.

Two Sites of Obstruction with Gallstones: A Case Report of Bouveret Syndrome with a Concurrent Biliary Ileus.

Bouveret syndrome is a gastric outlet obstruction, and biliary ileus is an obstruction of the small bowel, and both are caused by a gallstone that escaped the gallbladder through a bilio-enteric fistula. The concurrent occurrence of obstruction at both sites is encountered very rarely, and only two such cases associated with Bouveret syndrome were reported before. We now present a case involving a 78-year-old female with simultaneous obstruction at both the duodenum and jejunum.

First splenic rupture following an endoscopic esophageal myotomy: A case report.

Background: The occurrence of splenic rupture is extremely rare during an upper gastro-intestinal endoscopy. Although infrequent, splenic rupture is a known complication secondary to colonoscopy. However, occurrence of splenic rupture after peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has never been reported to date.

Arteriovenous Fistula Creation and Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate Decline in Advanced CKD: A Matched Cohort Study.

Background: Kidney failure is associated with a high burden of morbidity and mortality. Previous studies have raised the possibility that arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation may attenuate eGFR decline. This study aimed to compare eGFR decline in predialysis patients with an AVF, matched to patients oriented toward peritoneal dialysis (PD).

Impact of Arteriovenous fistula creation on estimated glomerular filtration rate decline in Predialysis patients.

Background: Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the vascular access of choice for patients on hemodialysis. Recent evidence suggests that AVF creation may slow estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline. The study objective was to assess the impact of the AVF creation on eGFR decline, after controlling for key confounding factors.

Pharmacokinetic and Dynamic of Furosemide in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy and bioavailibility of a commonly used oral furosemide dose (500 mg) compared to a 250 mg intravenous (IV) dose in PD patients with significant residual renal function (urine volume > 100 mL). We also evaluated the immediate blood pressure effect in these patients. The data were obtained from a study we performed for the homologation of a 500-mg dose of furosemide by Health Canada.
