A double fixation method of preparing platelet suspensions for both scanning and transmission electron microscopy is outlined. Prefixation in 0.1% glutaraldehyde allows for immediate preservation of morphologic characteristics induced by experimental procedures, but does not completely destroy platelet surface stickiness.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA human thyroid tumor is described which, on light microscopy, exhibited the features of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MCT). The cells were arranged in solid lobules or trabeculae, and the stroma was abundant and gave positive reaction for amyloid as assessed by congo red, crystal violet and thioflavin T stains. However, there was microfollicular differentiation in certain portions of the tumor even where the tumor was invasively growing.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA case of nodular renal blastema developing into nephroblastomatosis is presented. Definitions and histopathology of these entities is given, and it is suggested that they represent a developmental spectrum with natural progression to Wilms' tumor.

Intrapelvic migration of a threaded Steinmann pin complicated internal fixation of a displaced femoral neck fracture in an elderly man with untreated Parkinson's disease. Parkinsonian tremors may have contributed to this unusual complication. This case, in the light of a review of the literature, suggests that transfixation pins and wires should not be used in patients with Parkinson's disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFInsulin was administered to 12 of 15 patients with systemic insulin hypersensitivity. Eight patients with a history of a systemic reaction to insulin but not receiving current therapy were skin-tested and desensitized. Four receiving insulin had temporary dose reduction followed by slow increase to therapeutic levels.

Rhesus immunoglobulin (Ig)G, IgM, and IgA were identified in RS by their cross-reactivity with human IgG, IgA, and IgM, and relative concentrations of rhesus IgA and IgG could be evaluated in sequential samples of RS and serum (S) by radial immunodiffusion analysis using antiserum specific for human gamma and alpha chains. Administration of keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) by aerosol was compared with intravenous administration of KLH.

The enhanced adsorption was observed directly at the interface between the solid and the aqueous solution.
