Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown on Gastric Bypass Results at 1-Year Follow-up.

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic caused a lockdown in many countries, which induced negative dietary habits and sedentary behavior. Studies suggest that weight loss of patients undergoing bariatric surgery was equally affected. The aim was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on weight loss, obesity-related comorbidities, and nutritional status at 1-year follow-up after gastric bypass (GB).

Extended time interval between diagnosis and surgery does not improve the outcome in patients operated for resection or ablation of breast cancer liver metastases.

Background: Breast cancer liver metastases (BCLM) is considered a systemic disease with poorly defined selection criteria for surgery and little evidence for the appropriate timing of surgery.

Methods: Postoperative outcomes of patients operated for BCLM were retrospectively reviewed and compared based on the timing of surgery, with the early surgery (ES) group treated ≤12 months after BCLM diagnosis, and late surgery (LS) group operated >12 months after diagnosis.

Results: Seventy-two patients with BCLM underwent liver surgery, including 37 and 35 in the ES and LS groups, respectively.

Gallbladder torsion: a cholecystectomy that cannot be delayed.

Gallbladder torsion is a rare entity, where the gallbladder twisted around its mesentery. Unfortunately, the diagnosis is rarely done preoperatively. This paper aims, through a case report, to describe the risk factors and the radiological criteria used to diagnose gallbladder torsion, in order to avoid a rapidly unfavourable evolution and the need to proceed to emergency cholecystectomy.
