Architecture: Cause or Cure for Eco-Anxiety?

Construction is the main cause for global raw material extraction, and a key source of greenhouse gas emissions. Through the increasing consumption of resources, it is driving us beyond the planetary boundaries. We argue that in this light, the connection of the environmental impacts of new buildings and the symptoms of eco-anxiety among their designers, builders, users, and funders needs investigation and discussion.

Students' achievement motivation in Finnish and Chinese higher education and its relation to perceived teaching-learning environments.

This cross-cultural study of Finnish and Chinese students set out to compare the levels of achievement motivation (AM) in order to investigate whether the differences in them might be explained by the different cultural response styles and whether these response styles could be controlled for with a method which includes response style variables as covariates in ANCOVA. This study also scrutinizes relationships between perceived teaching-learning environments (TLE) and AM within each cultural group. The survey sample consisted of 3,035 Finnish and 2,309 mainland Chinese university students.

Role clarity, role conflict, and vitality at work: The role of the basic needs.

This study aimed to provide new information on the relationships between vitality at work and role clarity, role conflict, and psychological basic need satisfaction. Participants of the cross-sectional study were 110 employees in a preventive intervention program. Associations between the focal constructs were examined with regression and bootstrapping analyses.

Pain self-efficacy moderates the association between pain and somatization in a community sample.

Background and aims Pain is a common condition. However, only a minority of people experiencing pain develop a chronic pain problem. Factors such as somatization, pain self-efficacy and lack of psychological well-being affect the risk of pain chronicity and pain-related disability.

Burnout among Finnish and Chinese university students.

In this study the levels of experienced burnout of Finnish and Chinese university students are compared using School Burnout Inventory (SBI). This study is motivated by earlier studies, which suggest that the level of student burnout is different in the culturally distinct Finnish and Chinese university systems, but which are based on different research instruments for the two groups. The sample studied consisted of 3,035 Finnish students and 2,309 Chinese students.

Carbon sequestration through urban ecosystem services: A case study from Finland.

Plants and soil are natural regulators of atmospheric CO2. Whereas plants sequester atmospheric carbon, soils deposit it for decades. As cities become increasingly more densely built, the available land area for such ecosystem services may decrease.
