Quasiparticle interference (QPI) provides a wealth of information relating to the electronic structure of a material. However, it is often assumed that this information is constrained to two-dimensional electronic states. We show that this is not necessarily the case.

Triplet supercurrents were discovered in Josephson junctions with metallic ferromagnet spacers, where spin transport can occur only within the ferromagnet and in conjunction with a charge current. Ferromagnetic resonance injects a pure spin current from a precessing ferromagnet into adjacent non-magnetic materials.

Motivated by the recent derivation of spin-polarized quasiclassical boundary conditions capable of describing such a scenario in the diffusive limit, we consider the emergent physics in hybrid structures comprised of a conventional s-wave superconductor (e.g.

During the past 15 years a new field has emerged, which combines superconductivity and spintronics, with the goal to pave a way for new types of devices for applications combining the virtues of both by offering the possibility of long-range spin-polarized supercurrents. Such supercurrents constitute a fruitful basis for the study of fundamental physics as they combine macroscopic quantum coherence with microscopic exchange interactions, spin selectivity, and spin transport. This report follows recent developments in the controlled creation of long-range equal-spin triplet supercurrents in ferromagnets and its contribution to spintronics.

Based on these findings, we develop a model of electrons interacting with a temperature dependent magnetic excitation spectrum and apply it to angle resolved photoemission in Ba(1-x)K(x)Fe(2)As(2). We reproduce in quantitative agreement with experiment a renormalization of the quasiparticle dispersion both in the normal and the superconducting state, and the dependence of the quasiparticle linewidth on binding energy.

We report an extensive theoretical analysis of point-contact Andreev reflection data available in the literature on ferromagnetic CrO2. We find that the spectra can be well understood within a model of fully spin-polarized bands in CrO2 together with spin-active scattering at the contact. This is in contrast to analysis of the data within extended Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk models, which lead to a spin polarization varying between 50% and 100% depending on the transparency of the interface.

Remarkably, for any interface spin polarization there is a critical interface resistance, above which the conventional even-frequency proximity component vanishes completely at the chemical potential, while the odd-frequency component remains finite. We propose a way to unambiguously observe the odd-frequency component.

Our results reveal a high sensitivity of the junction to the spiral order and indicate the presence of 0-pi quantum phase transitions as function of the spiral wave vector. We find that the chiral magnetic order introduces chiral superconducting triplet pairs that strongly influence the physics in such Josephson junctions, with potential applications in nanoelectronics and spintronics.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe present theoretical results on the interplay of magnetic and superconducting orders in diffusive ferromagnet-superconductor-ferromagnet trilayers. The induced triplet superconducting correlations throughout the trilayer lead to an induced spin magnetization. We include self-consistency of the order parameter in the superconducting layer at arbitrary temperatures, arbitrary interface transparency, and any relative orientation of the exchange fields in the two ferromagnets.
