The functional capability of human neonatal CD4 T cells to respond to vaccine antigens is frequently described as Th2 biased, but whether this is due to defective T-cell or antigen-presenting cell (APC) function is unclear. In this study, we used purified T cells and autologous monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MDDCs) as APCs to model primary and secondary neonatal CD4 T-cell responses in vitro to BBG2Na, a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Neonatal MDDCs were phenotypically and functionally comparable to adult-derived MDDCs in terms of stimulatory capacity, longevity and ability to direct Th1 differentiation.

Medications given preoperatively have the potential to affect the induction dose of injectable anesthetics, which could result in an anesthetic overdose. Tepoxalin is an NSAID approved for the treatment of arthritis in dogs in the United States and hence could be administered in patients requiring anesthesia. In this study, administration of a single dose or a 10-day course of tepoxalin did not affect the induction dose (dose that allowed intubation) of propofol, thiopental, or ketamine-diazepam and also did not affect the time required for dogs to recover from anesthesia.

MK-0767, a dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) alpha/gamma agonist, has been studied as a potential treatment of type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia. The pharmacokinetics and interconversion of (+)-(R)-MK-0767 and (-)-(S)-MK-0767 were evaluated following oral administration of each single enantiomer and the racemate to healthy subjects. The results demonstrate that, consistent with in vitro experiments, chiral inversion occurs rapidly in vivo, and interconversion equilibrium favors (+)-(R).

There are three primary cues used by the auditory system to locate the position of a sound in space: interaural differences in the arrival-time (ITD), phase (IPD), and the loudness (ILD) of the sound at the two ears. Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is etiologically linked to Kaposi sarcoma (KS), a tumor genetically akin to lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs). We obtained the immune transcriptional signature of KS and used KSHV-infected LECs (KLECs) as an in vitro model to determine the effects of KSHV on transcription and expression of genes involved in immunity. The antigen presentation, interferon (IFN) response, and cytokine transcriptomes of KLECs resemble those of KS.

Objective: To describe a considerably advanced method of array painting, which allows the rapid, ultra-high resolution mapping of translocation breakpoints such that rearrangement junction fragments can be amplified directly and sequenced.

Method: Ultra-high resolution array painting involves the hybridisation of probes generated by the amplification of small numbers of flow-sorted derivative chromosomes to oligonucleotide arrays designed to tile breakpoint regions at extremely high resolution.

Results And Discussion: How ultra-high resolution array painting of four balanced translocation cases rapidly and efficiently maps breakpoints to a point where junction fragments can be amplified easily and sequenced is demonstrated.

Previous perceptual learning studies have shown that sensitivity to subtle orientation differences improves with practice at oblique axes but not with practice at cardinal axes.
