Objective: Morning total cortisol (TC) levels have been shown to predict adrenal dysfunction (AD) in the general population, but their utility in cirrhosis is unknown.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed including all noncritically ill patients at our institution between 2011 and 2022 admitted with acute decompensated cirrhosis who underwent standard-dose adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation testing. Adrenal dysfunction was defined as an increase in TC (delta TC) level <9 µg/dl 60 minutes after ACTH dosing.
Background: Proton beam therapy (PBT) is a non-surgical treatment that spares adjacent tissues compared to photon radiation and useful for Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). We present a single center experience in HCC and iCCA treated with Pencil Beam Scanning (PBS) PBT.
Methods: Forty-four consecutive patients (22 patients in each group) receiving PBT were included and reviewed.
Background & Aims: Characterization of relative adrenal insufficiency (RAI) in cirrhosis is heterogeneous with regard to studied patient populations and diagnostic methodology. We aimed to describe the prevalence and prognostic importance of RAI in non-critically ill patients with cirrhosis.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed using MeSH terms and Boolean operators to search five large databases (Ovid-MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and ClinicalTrials.
Background: Depression is common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and contributes to poor quality of life (QoL). The use of information technology for the remote management of patients with IBD is growing, but little is known about its impact on depressive symptoms (DS) and QoL. We aimed to evaluate the impact of telemedicine on DS and generic QoL in IBD patients.
