Nanosecond Q switched pulses and radial polarization are established stand-alone techniques for enhanced laser materials processing applications, but are generally challenging to achieve simultaneously at high average power levels. Here, we demonstrate a 20.6 W radially polarized Ho:YAG rod laser which has been actively Q switched in order to generate 515 J, 210 ns pulses at 2097 nm.

This challenge arises due to the strong three-level behavior at short wavelengths and strong competition from higher-gain long wavelength emission. Here, we report on investigations of hot electron generation and extraction from Pt decorated SiO2-Au nanoparticles using the degradation of methylene blue dye as a test-bed. Enhanced catalytic activity was found with an increase of Pt loading on the surface of the heterostructures.

Photon event centroiding in photon counting imaging and single-molecule localisation in super-resolution fluorescence microscopy share many traits. Although photon event centroiding has traditionally been performed with simple single-iteration algorithms, we recently reported that iterative fitting algorithms originally developed for single-molecule localisation fluorescence microscopy work very well when applied to centroiding photon events imaged with an MCP-intensified CMOS camera. Here, we have applied these algorithms for centroiding of photon events from an electron-bombarded CCD (EBCCD).

Methods: Ruthenium-based dye Ru(bpy)2(mcbpy - O - Su - ester)(PF6)2, whose lifetime of several hundred nanoseconds is comparable to the rotational correlation time of these drugs in buffer, was used as a label. The hydrodynamic radii were calculated from the rotational correlation times of the Ru(bpy)2(mcbpy - O - Su - ester)(PF6)2-labelled drugs obtained with time-resolved phosphorescence anisotropy measurements in buffer/glycerol solutions of varying viscosity.
An increase in diagnoses of vitamin D deficiency prompted a review of cases from four general practices. Of the 299 cases identified, the predominant patient group comprised adult Somali females presenting with symptoms of chronic musculoskeletal pain. Women of childbearing age were particularly at risk.

Clinical Findings: Lameness was evident at the walk and trot and was exacerbated when the horse circled to the left. Signs of pain were elicited in response to hoof testers placed over the frog of the left front hoof, and a palmar digital nerve block eliminated the lameness.
