This work focuses on simulating the thermal history of a vertical wall consisting of a thermoplastic composite material, poly(ethylene terephthalate) glycol (PETG) with short carbon fiber reinforcement, manufactured using a Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) system. The incremental deposition process used in additive manufacturing, which corresponds to the repeated deposition of hot material onto cooler material, contributes to the presence of residual stresses and part warping. The prediction of these mechanisms is dependent on thermal history of the part, and the major motivation of this work was to improve the accuracy of finite element (FE) models used to quantify the thermal history of large-format additively manufactured parts.

In brain stem slices from neonatal (postnatal days 0-4) CD-1 mice, muscarinic ACh receptors (MAChRs) increased rhythmic inspiratory-related and tonic hypoglossal nerve discharge and depolarized single hypoglossal motoneurons (HMs) via an inward current without changing input resistance. These responses were blocked by the MAChR antagonist 1,1-dimethyl-4-diphenylacetoxypiperidinium iodide (4-DAMP; 100 nM). MAChRs shifted voltage-dependent activation of the hyperpolarization-activated cation current to more positive levels.

Global effects in functional MRI are temporal modulations in signal intensity resulting from various scanner and subject phenomena. These effects contribute to the overall variance, reducing the effect size associated with an experimental paradigm. Statistical estimations that include an approximation for concurrent global effects will reduce the residual error within the model and so improve statistical power of the study.

Respiration is altered during different stages of the sleep-wake cycle. We review the contribution of cholinergic systems to this alteration, with particular reference to the role of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (MAchRs) during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Available evidence demonstrates that MAchRs have potent excitatory effects on medullary respiratory neurones and respiratory motoneurones, and are likely to contribute to changes in central chemosensitive drive to the respiratory control system.
