Real-time validation of the Sgarbossa and modified Sgarbossa criteria in intermittent left bundle branch block.

The modified Sgarbossa criteria have been established to aid in the diagnosis of ST-elevation myocardial infarction in patients with left bundle branch block. Thus far, the sensitivities and specificities of the Sgarbossa signs have only been evaluated retrospectively in cohorts of patients with and without occlusive myocardial infarctions. These statistical analyses were based on correlating ST abnormalities with serum markers of myocardial injury and/or results of emergent cardiac catheterization.

Ciprofloxacin-induced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome with Grapefruit Juice Consumption: A Case Report.

We describe the case of a 49-year-old, otherwise healthy, Hispanic male who underwent an uncomplicated vasectomy and was treated prophylactically with a one-week course of ciprofloxacin. Two days after completing the antibiotic course, he developed a pruritic, blistering rash that covered 90% of his body surface area. Punch biopsy of the skin lesions confirmed the diagnosis of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS).

An unusual presentation of papillary thyroid carcinoma in a pediatric patient: A case report.

Cystic neck masses in the pediatric population are common but rarely concerning for malignancy. Given this typically benign nature, they are frequently managed conservatively. Here we present an unusual case of a waxing and waning cystic neck mass in a pediatric patient.

Comparison of mechanical compressive properties of commercial and autologous fibrin glues for tissue engineering applications.

Background: Fibrin glues are widely used in orthopedic surgery as adhesives and hemostatic agents. We evaluated the compressive properties of selected fibrin glues in order to identify which are appropriate for tissue regeneration applications subject to compression.

Methods: Uniaxial unconfined compression tests were performed on fibrin gels prepared from commercial and autologous products: (1) Evicel (Ethicon), (2) Tisseel (Baxter), (3) Angel (Arthrex), and (4) ProPlaz (Biorich).

Although mechanisms to resist plant defenses have been identified in ancient herbivorous lineages, adaptations to overcome plant defenses during transitions to herbivory remain relatively unexplored. The fly genus Scaptomyza is nested within the genus Drosophila and includes species that feed on the living tissue of mustard plants (Brassicaceae), yet this lineage is derived from microbe-feeding ancestors.
