Small RNAs (sRNA's), a class of non-coding RNAs that interact with an mRNA transcript via base pairing, modulate translation initiation and mRNA degradation. However, most RNA-based regulatory mechanisms are not well conserved across different bacterial species despite controlling genes important for virulence or essential biosynthetic processes.
