An Autobiographical Case Report of Eosinophilic Esophagitis: A Diagnosis That Is Hard to Swallow.

This case is an autobiographical report and a first-hand account of my experience with eosinophilic esophagitis. It follows my realization of symptoms through food bolus obstruction, treatment with steroids and proton pump inhibitors, and remission of symptoms. This case shows how even someone with healthcare experience can go years without an appropriate diagnosis of this poorly understood condition.

Reliability and Convergent Construct Validity of Quantitative Ultrasound for Synovitis, Meniscal Extrusion, and Osteophyte in Knee Osteoarthritis With MRI.

Aims: To determine: 1) inter-rater reliability of quantitative measurements of ultrasound-detected synovitis, meniscal extrusion, and osteophytes; and 2) construct (convergent) validity via correlations and absolute agreements between ultrasound- and gold-standard magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-outcomes in knee osteoarthritis.

Methods: Dynamic ultrasound images for supra-patellar synovitis, meniscal extrusion, and osteophytes were acquired and quantified by a physician operator, musculoskeletal ultrasonographer, and medical student independently. On the same day, 3T MRI images were acquired.

Measuring adherence to unsupervised, conservative treatment for knee osteoarthritis: A systematic review.

Objective: To describe the measurement of adherence to unsupervised, conservative treatments for knee osteoarthritis (OA), including the methods of adherence measurement, parameters for assessing adherence and any values used to quantify adherence.

Methods: A systematic review with search terms related to knee OA, conservative treatments and adherence was conducted. The protocol was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (registration number CRD42020158188).

Attentional bias toward negative and positive pictorial stimuli and its relationship with distorted cognitions, empathy, and moral reasoning among men with intellectual disabilities who have committed crimes.

The aims of this study were to examine: (a) whether men with intellectual disabilities who have a history of criminal offending attend to affective pictorial stimuli in a biased manner, and (b) whether there is a relationship between an affective attentional bias and offense-supportive cognitions, empathy, and moral reasoning. Forty-six men with intellectual disabilities who had a documented history of criminal offending, and 51 men who also had intellectual disabilities, but no such history, were recruited and asked to complete a computer-based dot-probe task using affective pictorial stimuli with randomization, along with measures of distorted cognitions, empathy, and moral reasoning. Those with a history of criminal offending endorsed significantly more offense-supportive cognitions, had significantly lower general empathy, and more "mature" moral reasoning, as well as a significant attentional bias toward affective pictorial stimuli.

One-Stage Sequential Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Effective Treatment for Advanced Bilateral Knee Osteoarthritis Providing High Patient Satisfaction.

Background: The mortality and risks of bilateral total knee arthroplasty (BTKA) have been reported to be far greater than in unilateral total knee arthroplasty (UTKA). This study aimed to determine whether this remains the case using contemporary anesthetic and surgical techniques for one-stage single anesthetic sequential BTKA.

Methods: Two cohorts of 394 patients were created by propensity matching for gender, age, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists grade, and Veterans Rand-12 health survey scores.

Disease-modifying drugs in osteoarthritis: current understanding and future therapeutics.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of pain and disability among adults with a current prevalence of around 15% and a predicted prevalence of 35% in 2030 for symptomatic OA. It is increasingly recognized as a heterogeneous multi-faceted joint disease with multi-tissue involvement of varying severity. Current therapeutic regimens for OA are only partially effective and often have significant associated toxicities.

Bond dissociation energies of TiC, ZrC, HfC, ThC, NbC, and TaC.

Sharp predissociation thresholds have been observed in the resonant two-photon ionization spectra of TiC, ZrC, HfC, ThC, NbC, and TaC. Because of the large density of states in these species, particularly near the ground separated atom limit, we argue that the sharp predissociation threshold occurs at the thermochemical bond dissociation energy. Determination of the bond dissociation energies of FeX and NiX (X = C, S, Se).

The bond dissociation energies of FeC, NiC, FeS, NiS, FeSe, and NiSe have been measured by the observation of a predissociation threshold in their resonant two-photon ionization spectra. Because the lowest separated atom limits generate a vast number of potential energy curves, it is thought that the molecules dissociate as soon as the ground separated atom limit is exceeded in energy. From the observed thresholds, dissociation energies have been measured as D(FeC) = 3.

The bond length and bond energy of gaseous CrW.

Supersonically cooled CrW was studied using resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy. The vibronically resolved spectrum was recorded over the region 21 100 to 23 400 cm(-1), showing a very large number of bands. Seventeen of these bands, across three different isotopologues, were rotationally resolved and analyzed.

Resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy of jet-cooled UN: determination of the ground state.

The optical transitions of supersonically cooled uranium nitride (UN) have been investigated in the range from 19,200 to 23,900 cm(-1) using resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy. A large number of bands have been observed, of which seven have been rotationally resolved and analyzed. All are found to arise from the same state, which is presumably the ground state of the molecule.
