A sellar spine is a midline bony spur arising from the ventral aspect of the dorsum sellae. Representing a remnant of the anterior notochord, it is often an incidental finding and thought to be of no clinical significance. However, it has recently been suggested that a potential association may exist between sellar spine and pediatric pituitary endocrinopathies, possibly caused by deformation of the developing pituitary gland by the sellar spine.

In intermolecular competition experiments, the influence of carbon-based groups (methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, tert-butyl, phenyl, and 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl) and alkoxy groups (monoethoxydimethyl-, diethoxymethyl-, and triethoxy) on the silicon have been evaluated under activation by two different methods, fluoride (TBAF) and silanolate (TMSOK). [(C(5)H(4))SiMe(2)(N-t-Bu)]ZrCl(2), 1, [(C(9)H(6))SiMe(2)(N-t-Bu)]ZrCl(2), 2, and [(C(5)Me(4))SiMe(2)(N-i-Pr)]ZrCl(2), 3, were prepared in two steps, with ligand chelation accomplished by an amine elimination reaction followed by treatment of the diamido Zr intermediate with an excess of SiMe(3)Cl. X-ray structural analyses reveal that in the solid state 2 is monomeric, whereas 1 and 3 are centrosymmetric dimers linked by a pair of bridging chlorides.
