Objective: Cellular bone allografts (CBAs) contain the components of a successful bone graft with no autologous component and have been used extensively outside the head and neck. Descriptions of their utilization for mandible reconstruction are limited.

Video-Based Tracheostomy Care Education for Medical Students.

Objective: Tracheostomy is a common procedure that requires management by a multidisciplinary team of health care providers across a range of surgical and nonsurgical specialties. Nonsurgical health care providers have demonstrated a lack of knowledge and confidence in tracheostomy care, which improve with tracheostomy education programs. However, tracheostomy care is rarely included in preresidency medical education.

Primary cervical ganglioneuroblastoma, nodular subtype.

Primary cervical ganglioneuroblastoma is rare and reports of its subtypes are limited. This case series describes two pediatric patients with the nodular subtype of primary cervical ganglioneuroblastoma with lymphatic spread. Clinical course, diagnosis, and management of this rare tumor are discussed with emphasis on the importance of including neuroblastic tumors in the differential diagnosis of pediatric neck masses.

Clinical and functional outcomes after total laryngectomy and laryngopharyngectomy: Analysis by tumor subsite, salvage status, and extent of resection.

Background: Outcomes following surgical intervention for laryngeal and hypopharyngeal tumors are dependent on several factors. In the present study, we sought to determine whether tumor subsite, salvage status, and extent of resection influenced postoperative outcomes.

Methods: Retrospective review of 107 patients at a single institution who underwent total laryngectomy or partial/total laryngopharyngectomy.

Esthesioneuroblastoma: a contemporary review of diagnosis and management.

Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB) is a rare malignancy, representing only 3% to 6% of all sinonasal malignancies. A wide array of treatment options for ENB have been described in the literature, but prospective clinical trials are absent given the tumor's rarity and natural history. Delay in diagnosis leading to an initial advanced stage of presentation is common secondary to the clinically hidden primary site at the anterior skull base.

Age-related hearing loss - presbycusis - is the most common communication problem and third most prevalent chronic medical disorder of the aged. The CBA and C57BL/6 mouse strains are useful for studying features of presbycusis. The CBA loses its hearing slowly, like most humans.

Craniomaxillofacial fractures during recreational baseball and softball.

Purpose: Baseball and softball are leading causes of sports-related facial trauma in the United States. We review our institutional experience (Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY) with these injuries and discuss measures to reduce their incidence.

Patients And Methods: We review our institutions experience with facial fractures sustained during the course of a softball or baseball game over a 12-year period.

Variable expression of long QT syndrome among gene carriers from families with five different HERG mutations.

Objectives: This study assessed the phenotypic variability of LQTS in carriers with the same and with different mutations in the LQT2 gene.

Background: Mutations of ion-channel genes are known to cause the long QT syndrome (LQTS), a disorder associated with distinctive genotypic-specific electrocardiographic patterns and variable clinical expression.

Methods: Clinical and electrocardiographic characteristics were assessed in five large LQTS families, each with a different mutation of the HERG gene (LQT2; n = 469, 69% genotyped, 102 carriers).
