Increasing efforts have been made to elucidate how genetic and environmental factors interact in Parkinson's disease (PD). In the present study, we assessed the development of symptoms on a genetic PD rat model that overexpresses human α-synuclein (Snca) at a presymptomatic age, exposed to a pro-inflammatory insult by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), using immunohistology, high-dimensional flow cytometry, constant potential amperometry, and behavioral analyses. A single injection of LPS into WT and Snca rats triggered long-lasting increase in the activation of pro-inflammatory microglial markers, monocytes, and T lymphocytes.

ABO incompatibility is not considered a contraindication for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of red blood cell concentrates obtained from donated whole blood, selected for transfusion therapy of thalassaemic patients, by measuring the following parameters: haemoglobin, haematocrit, percentage haemolysis, residual leucocyte count and residual protein content.

Materials And Methods: Overall 345 red cell concentrates were evaluated, of which 205 had been filtered in-line pre-storage and washed and 140 were buffy coat-depleted and used within 2 days of collection. Of the buffy coat-depleted concentrates, 62 were leucodepleted and 78 washed and leucodepleted post-storage all within 2 days of collection.

The monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) could be considered a preneoplastic condition since no clinical and laboratory features are able to identify in advance the patients at high risk of disease progression. In this study we analysed IL-6mRNA expression on both bone marrow mononuclear cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells sample of multiple myeloma (MM) and MGUS patients for evaluation if IL-6mRNA expression could be considered diagnostic or prognostic aspect of progression disease risk to MM. We concluded that expression of IL-6mRNA hasn't prognostic significance for the progression disease risk to multiple myeloma but could have a discriminant significance the MM and MGUS pathologies when combined with gene rearrangements and immunochemicals analysis.
