Use of Thoracic Catheters to Drain Pelvic Abscesses in Horses: Two Cases.

Pelvic abscesses occur in horses of all ages and breeds. Although conservative management may be successful, surgical drainage may be necessary for larger abscesses or in case of secondary intestinal obstruction. The purpose of this report is to describe two cases of pelvic abscesses that were successfully drained using indwelling chest tubes, repeated lavages and targeted antibiotic treatment.

Evaluation of four techniques for injection of the proximal interphalangeal joint in horses.

Objective: To describe a dorsoproximal midline (DPM) standing technique for proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) injection and to compare it to established dorsolateral flexed (DLF), palmaroproximal (PP), and dorsolateral standing (DLS) techniques.

Study Design: Ex vivo study.

Sample Population: Sixty cadaver equine thoracic limbs.
