Drug shortages are a persistent and serious problem in the United States, affecting patient care and health care costs. This article canvasses factors that contribute to drug shortages, such as manufacturing complexity, price, and quality inspection records. This article further proposes an early warning system and payment, contracting, and pricing innovations to mitigate drug shortages and offers data-driven recommendations to stakeholders looking to protect the supply of quality medicines.

Visualizing the atomic-scale origin of metallic behavior in Kondo insulators.

A Kondo lattice is often electrically insulating at low temperatures. However, several recent experiments have detected signatures of bulk metallicity within this Kondo insulating phase. In this study, we visualized the real-space charge landscape within a Kondo lattice with atomic resolution using a scanning tunneling microscope.

Immunizing with information - Inoculation messages against conversational agents' response failures.

Conversational agents (CAs) are often unable to provide meaningful responses to user requests, thereby triggering user resistance and impairing the successful diffusion of CAs. Literature mostly focuses on improving CA responses but fails to address user resistance in the event of further response failures. Drawing on inoculation theory and the elaboration likelihood model, we examine how inoculation messages, as communication that seeks to prepare users for a possible response failure, can be used as an alleviation mechanism.
