The capacity for strategic thinking about the payoff-relevant actions of conspecifics is not well understood across species. We use game theory to make predictions about choices and temporal dynamics in three abstract competitive situations with chimpanzee participants. Frequencies of chimpanzee choices are extremely close to equilibrium (accurate-guessing) predictions, and shift as payoffs change, just as equilibrium theory predicts.

Histopathological analysis revealed a dense infiltration of medium-to-large-sized atypical cells throughout the entire dermis. View Article and Find Full Text PDFUnlike endo-dissociative-xyloglucanases, Paenibacillus XEG74 is an endo-processive xyloglucanase that contains four unique tryptophan residues in the negative subsites (W61 and W64) and the positive subsites (W318 and W319), as indicated by three-dimensional homology modelling. Selective replacement of the positive subsite residues with alanine mutations reduced the degree of processive activity and resulted in the more endo-dissociative-activity. The results showed that W318 and W319, which are found in the positive subsites, are essential for processive degradation and are responsible for maintaining binding interactions with xyloglucan polysaccharide through a stacking effect.

Among these elderly patients (>65 years old), seven patients had extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) with an NK-cell phenotype, and two patients had EBV(+) T-cell lymphomas or lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) with cutaneous lesions mimicking pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA) or hydroa vacciniforme (HV). No patients had a previous episode of EBV-related symptoms such as infectious mononucleosis, chronic active EBV infection, HV or hypersensitivity to mosquito bites.

We assessed the theoretical background of our original single-incision laparoscopic-assisted surgery( SILS) technique involving a periumbilical approach. The subjects included 10 cases who underwent periumbilical SILS colectomy and had their surgical wounds photographed before and after skin incision between September 2009 and October 2010. Using an image analyzer, we estimated the theoretical oval area after a 3/4-circumferential periumbilical skin incision, the actual oval area after placement of the wound retractor, and the length of the skin incision.
