cDNA species encoding a large DNA-binding protein (NP220) of 1978 amino acids was isolated from human cDNA libraries. Human NP220 binds to double-stranded DNA fragments by recognizing clusters of cytidines. Immunofluorescent microscopy with antiserum directed against NP220 revealed a punctate or "speckled" pattern and coiled body-like structures in the nucleoplasm of various human cell lines.

A new concept in chromatography is proposed that utilizes a temperature-responsive surface with a constant aqueous mobile phase. The surface of the silica stationary phase in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been modified with temperature-responsive polymers to exhibit temperature-controlled hydrophilic/hydrophobic changes. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) was grafted onto (aminopropyl)silica using an activated ester-amine coupling method.

Ischaemic cerebral strokes in children are relatively uncommon. With the exception of patients with moyamoya disease, there is no effective treatment for these lesions. One potential approach is encephalo-duro-arterio-synangiosis (EDAS).

The urinary excretion of 5-HIAA increased significantly after eating banana, pineapple, tomato, kiwi fruit and walnut. An increase in the urinary excretion of DOPAC and HVA after eating banana and that of VA after taking vanilla was also noted.

However, these gastric lesions are often improved after the administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO). We have used the rat gastric mucosal cell line RGM-1, to examine the possibility that rHuEPO might directly stimulate the growth of gastric mucosal cells in vitro.

In this study, we characterized this newly established cell line by Northern blot analysis. We also investigated deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis and hexosamine production in RGM-1 by PGE2.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA case of systemic capillary leak syndrome in a 67-year-old woman is reported. The patient suddenly presented with severe edema and hypotension associated with an increased hematocrit and a decreased level of serum albumin, suggesting capillary hyperpermeability. The patient had IgG kappa monoclonal gammopathy in association with not only a slight increase in plasma cells in the bone marrow but also several punched out lesions in the skull, indicating multiple myeloma.

Methods: The disposition of MK-4 and menaquinone-4 epoxide (MKO) following the intravenous administration of the prodrugs and MK-4 preparation solubilized with surfactant (H-MK-4) were studied in vitamin K cycle inhibited rats. The relative bioavailability of MKH after the administration of the prodrugs was assessed from the area under the plasma concentration of MKO vs.
A new set of recombinant inbred (RI) strain SMXA consisting of 26 substrains was established between SM/J and A/J. The history of the SMXA RI strains and their genetic profile covering 158 genetic marker loci are reported. From the strain distribution pattern among SMXA RI strains, the chromosomal location of salivary and tear protein genes Spe1-r, Spe1-s, Spe2, and Tpe1 were newly determined.

Pituitary abscess is relatively rare. Only about 80 cases have been reported. Preexisting lesions in pituitary fossa, such as pituitary adenoma, craniopharyngioma and Rathke's cleft cyst, are inclined to be complicated by infection more than the normal pituitary glands are.

We report here the isolation and characterization of the mouse homologue of the CBFA2T1 gene, Cbfa2t1h. Nucleotide sequence analysis of Cbfa2t1h cDNA clones revealed an open reading frame encoding a protein of 577 amino acids with an extremely high degree of amino acid identity (99.

Materials And Methods: Seventy-six patients with idiopathic moyamoya disease were studied with conventional angiography. The angiographic findings were reviewed for steno-occlusive lesions, collateral vessels, and aneurysms and compared with the finding of parenchymal lesions on computed tomographic and magnetic resonance images.
Background & Aims: The factors that stimulate the growth of gastric mucosal cells during gastric mucosal healing are not completely understood. This study was designed to investigate the gene expression of keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the healing of gastric mucosal lesions.
Methods: Northern blot analysis and reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction were used to show HGF and KGF messenger RNA.
A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for simultaneous determination of free catecholamines, their basic metabolites and serotonin in human urine was developed. The compounds were separated on a precolumn of cation-exchange resin and a mixed-mode (C18/cation-exchange) column and determined by an eight-channel electrochemical detector. By this method, free norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (E), dopamine (DA), normetanephrine (NMN), metanephrine (MN), 3-methoxy-tyramine (3-MT) and serotonin (5-HT) were determined in 40 min with inter-assay precision of 1.

A case of intracranial malignant meningioma with remote metastases to the bones is reported. A 66-year-old man with regrowth of right sphenoid ridge meningioma, whose meningioma had partially been removed 15 years before, was admitted to our clinic. The tumor was large enough to protrude into the lateral and third ventricles, and involved the right internal carotid, middle cerebral, anterior cerebral artery and optic nerve.

We performed comparative studies to determine an acute toxicity of microsomal Ca(2+)ATPase inhibitor, 2,5-di(tert-butyl)-1,4-hydroquinone (DTBHQ) and its related analog, mono(tert-butyl)-1,4-hydroquinone (MTBHQ), which are both used as antioxodants.
